  • General Football Question.. QPR Related

    Hopefully this does not turn into a farce, but can anyone put their finger on why so many football clubs are struggling.

    Watford and Sheffield Wed, tomorrow Cardiff plan to have fake £10 notes with Ribsdales head on it, then you add Crystal Palace. Mike Ashley at Newcastle had to take out a loan at Christmas. Big financial problems with even Mnachester United and Liverpool !!

    In the current climate fans are not turning up because of the cost, but clubs are trying to chase the dream with high wages and surely a wage cap is the answer?

    last year Southampton, this year Portsmouth plus many other clubs are deep trouble. I suspect many more clubs will go into administration and we not far away from one club going insolvent.

    Are we seeing the start of football bursting its own bubble and can anyone see a time when all teams basically are on a level playing field?

    Then you have the means test for running clubs, which the football league seem not to be even bothered about implementing

    Wages are way out of proportion with the earnings ability of the football clubs, the money from television to be had in the premiership is out of proportion with the other leagues which temps clubs into speculation, gambling on success that only a few each year can acheive.

    There is also way too much live tv. there should be no live games on saturdays as these effects crowds at other games.

    Not sure about salary caps as clubs that want to will always find ways round them but the clubs themselves should independently put their houses in order. Arsenal have done this to an extent over the last 5 years or so and it has cost them in terms of success but they are in good shape financially and possibly better set for the future than clubs like chelsea and man united who are loaded with debt

      Agree , the signs have been there for a while , thought it would have gone #### up earlier for a few clubs . There will be a few in trouble come the summer

        The only thing than can cause any club to lose money is simple,pay out more than you take in. Not rocket science but seems to be beyond the intelligence of about 80% of all clubs.

        We are a classic example,our squad has around 10 players to many,our wages are to high and our young and up and coming players barely get a look in,Balanta being a good example,surely he is better than Priskin and probably Bent.

        Without sugar daddies Man City and Chelsea (i wish ) would go bust overnight.

        As much as fans hate the idea ground sharing like the Milan clubs should now be common place in England.

        I hope our new regime are careful,run the club within our means and eventualy leave us in good shape.

        If they do however find 20 or 30 million down the back of the settee, and feel they need to spend it on players so be it

          Never has so much, been paid by so many, to so few to watch a pile of ****.

          Loyalty cannot be relied upon when people get priced out.

          Hopefully footballs bubble will burst big time.

          I don't object to a footballer earning say £150,000 a year, but current wages are crazy.

                There's a great book called "Soccernomics" that explains it all.

                    - Wages for players too high;
                    - Match Day Ticket prices too high (if you drop the prices - they will come);
                    - Season Tickets Too High;
                    - The UK Recession;
                    - Difference in money between Premiership and Football League;
                    - Clubs trying to buy the dream (Cardiff a good example).

                    Just some thoughts.

                      the big clubs in the prem started the rott when they voted to do away with shared gates!. This made it impossible for the smaller clubs to compete fairly, which in my opinion is the reason we no longer have Wimbledon fc.
                      The big clubs already had an unfair advantage due to off the field sales ie shirts etc due to larger fan base then they decided not to share gate receipt's.
                      For those to young to know what i am saying basically back in the day both teams would split the gate recipts for home and away games so all teams were much more closer on the financial front
                      Dyslexic so please don't feel the need to correct my spelling mistakes as I really don't give a **** and before you say use spell checker if it is spelt right / wright but not in context spell check is useless

                        Simply spending outside their means. That is all.

                        This is the golden age of football in terms of attendances for the vast majority of the 110 fully professional clubs.

                        Unfortunately many of those clubs have been run by ego-centric jack asses.

                          My 50 cents:

                          1. Transfer fees and wages has rocketed - and affected all clubs wages and transfer structure. Clubs have been living above their limits for a long time.
                          2. Economic crisis - can´t back up the clubs in the same way as before, and the ones giving the loans are more careful

                          Solution

                          Wage caps - hopefully in all leagues all over the world.
                          Not ok to have debts
