  • Now we have a proper manager we need a proper Captain

Now we have a proper manager we need a proper Captain, Alan McDonald style someone to lead the troops out and come back bloodied and bruised.

We have been missing someone to motivate and hold the team together when times are tough and pushing them forward to better things when its going well.

Who do you think we should target to be our new leader and what position do you think a captain should play in.

I think even though the likes of Cookie care greatly about the club they are not in the right position to lead. i feel a captain should be a central midfielder or defender and personally a new player to the club as i don't believe we have anyone respected enough and with a strong enough personality to do the job.

    Agree..wholeheartedly agree.

However, at the moment Cookie seems the best candidate. Albeit, and go with this...someone like Ramage at least shows the passion and commitment? I think you need someone to either lead by example..e.g. Cookie or someone to gee the players up..e.g. someone like Ramage

I know what your saying Scott but Ramage as captian? Come on!!!!

I think it's widely recognoised that despite his passion and commitment he is not good enough to be playing right back in this division. I'm not sure it would be a wise move to give the captain armband to a guy that in all likelyhood will be one of the first to be replaced after the transfer window opens.

I actually think that with Rowly injured we have a squad that is more or less totally devoid of natural leaders. I reckon Quashie has got some leadership qualities about him but again, does he really warrant a place in the starting line up?

If it was my decision I would leave the captaincy with Leigertwood for now, he hasn't done a bad job and is likely to start most games. In the summer we need to look at bringing in some leaders on the pitch.

I know Watson didn't cover himself in glory during his last stint here but Warnock brought the best out of him at Palace and he can do it again. Get Watson in as club captain for 2010/11.

I agree Tarbie, Our new captain needs to be respected as a person and player. Sorry Scott, but Ramage may care enough and i respect his attitude but unfortunately he should not be in the team he is not good enough and i think the players need to fully respect their captain and want to give him the ball not worry he would **** it up and kick it into row z when trying to pas it up the line.

Rowly or Watson if motivated could do that role, but my gut feeling that player should be a centre back just cant think who ....

Hopefully Warnock will get rid of Leigterwood as well so we can have some proper quality in the midfield. Someone who leads, tackles, has good passing, has good vision and scores quite a few goals.

I know you don't like him Smithy and I agree he isn't good enough to play centre mid but while we have Ramage he should be playing RB as that is his natural position in my eyes.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Agree 100%, I've been saying so for months. I think that is something NW will definitely address.

You should not have a loanee as Captain, so we are stuck with what we have I'm afraid.

                Connolly for me.
Will be here long term and is a top quality player. Wasn't he captain for his Arsenal team? If Wenger rates him, that's good enough for me.

For me the standout candidate in the current squad is Gorkks....I say current as i reckon Colin will bring in his own man in the summer and give him the armband

I agree with Ploughboy and Ramsey, got to be either Gorkks or Connolly!! Being a centre back, you can see pretty much all what's going on.
I came here to chew gum and kick ass,and I'm all outta gum!

He wasnt saying Ramage should be capatain. But hes saying he gees people up and leads by example as he always gives his all. Has the qualities there.

but obvious a captain needs to be respected on teh pitch and he is too crap to be respected by the team.

The picture stays until "the clown" is no longer a figurehead of our great club or dishing out the olives and ciabatta on matchday.... thanks for the polite nature of your request though WeAre!!!

i think Connolly is a future captain,he needs to establish himself in the side first which hopefully will happen very shortly
