  • NW....A Question of Sport...

From a Palace fan, a converation with Warnock posted on their website yesterday.

A bit of an insight into his opinions on "stuff".

This is from when I had the chance to meet Neil in person, at a filming of a Question of Sport, in January 2009.

    Quote:
So, last night I was at a recording of a Question of Sport. As a guest of the production crew, we got to mingle backstage in the green room, before and after the show.
One of the guests was our very own Mr Warnock (of course, I'd asked my cousin to get me on the show if he ever was a guest). I summoned up the courage to introduce myself and had a conversation with him about all things Palace.
My Dad was also there and he specifically asked about Clinton Morrison and why we'd let him go. Neil said "if I'm honest he was too much of an influence to some of the younger lads off the pitch. I told Simon 'he'll get you 15-20 goals, but we'll finish mid-table'. So we had to make a decision and if it wasn't then, it would have been 12 months later".

    Other things we discussed were:

    * Nathanial Clyne; "he'll play for England one day. He's the best of our current crop. I saw him in the reserves and what struck me was that he always did the right thing. Everybody thought I was mad putting him in the first team, the guy from the academy [Gary Issott] didn't think he was ready and Curley agreed with him."
    * Victor Moses; "he's not big headed at all and doesn't have an attitude problem... but he has changed agent recently so you always worry about these things."
    * Tom Soares; [prompted by my Dad saying he never rated him] "yeah Tom was a bit of an enigma in that way. You'd look at him and on his day he could be one of the best in the division, but that rarely happened."
    * Need for new players; "we need some new players but we don't have the money. Simon's lost quite a bit recently so I feel for him."
    * Craig Beattie and Scott Sinclair; "yeah we loved Beatts, everyone loved him down here. And he really loved it too. I was only on the phone to him today, he wants to come back because he enjoyed his time here so much, but West Brom won't let him leave on loan again. I spoke to Scott Sinclair yesterday too... he's not enjoying it at Birmingham, he got pulled off on Saturday and it's not a nice pitch up there, very hard. He wanted to come here too, but Chelsea thought it would be better for his development if he was somewhere where there was a bit of pressure. [but we were sixth at the time he joined them!] I know, I know... but Kenyon and Brady have got a good understanding. Hopefully he'll not enjoy it up there and end up here again."
