Sir Pie was saying on another thread that Nat Clyne was a realistic target but various Palace fans had laughed at the suggestion, saying if he had turned down Wolves why wd he come to us? It seemed a fair point but have just seen this report on why he turned down Wolves. Mainly it was due to fears of not being in the first team. He also felt loyalty to the club, but if the manager who brought him on was to take him with him, wd he feel the same? Here is the report anyway:

Wolves had a deadline-day offer of £500,000 accepted by Palace's administrators but Clyne himself declined the move, preferring to stay at Selhurst Park and McCarthy maintains that he understands that thought process.

"It was a speculative bid," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"But as far as I am aware they had accepted it. We made a bid when they were asking for money for players. It was Nathaniel Clyne that didn't want to come. And I understand his motives because he is a young lad.

"Firstly, he didn't know if he would get into the team. We've got Richard Stearman, Ronald Zubar, Kevin Foley and Greg Halford who all play there. They all know how I work and I know it was said to him, if you come and you are the best you will get in the team no matter how old you are.

"Second, it was deadline day. He is 18, he is playing in Crystal Palace's first team. He didn't know if he would play with us, his head must have been absolutely spinning. And I think, to his credit, he didn't want to let his team-mates down. That is what I heard. He has got a group of lads who are in a (financial) mess at the minute."

He didn't want to go and sit in the reserves like Vokes and Surman.

He would jump at a chance to join QPR if Warnock gets the job.

I think it would be a realistic signing for a couple of reasons. Firstly because of the Neil Warnock factor and secondly because of his age he'll no doubt want to stay in London and play for a side who will give him first team football. Warnock could promise him this and he could remain in the capital.

Surman looked a really good prospect at Southampton but hasn't made any breakthrough at all at Wolves has he?

A year in Wolves reserves does nothing for his development as a footballer. Thats why I'm so against bringing in dodgy loans over our own youngsters.

Dyslexic so please don't feel the need to correct my spelling mistakes as I really don't give a **** and before you say use spell checker if it is spelt right / wright but not in context spell check is useless

That's why I think Lallana was sensible to stay at Saints and improve as a player. He is having a brilliant season whereas Surman has hardly kicked a ball in anger.

think one or two loans can work really well. if, for instance, danny wellbeck had been loaned to qpr i don't think many fans wd have complained. flavio's mistake was to think you cd build an entire team on loans to save money, without realising you need a nucleus of your own players. If we had just loaned Simpson with one of either Tarabt or Watson with an otherwise stable squad I think it wd have worked fine.

Yeah,he was highly rated at Southampton.Shame he went there.

Clyne would walk into our team all day long.

Lallana has about 15 goals this season.Really doing well in a decent Southampton side.

for all this talk of big budgets wd be almost as happy for a clever warnock style manager to do a bit of gerry francis and bring in along with a couple of biggish buys several keen and hungry young players of the lallana variety for relatively small amounts.

Go out to Lg 2 and the Conferenece and buy the best young player from each divison. Throw them in the reserves and tell them to earn their place in the match day squad.

I'd also buy the top striker from Lg1 (bar Beckford) and throw them on the bench and tell them to earn their place in the starting 11, is it really that difficult?

There are some diamonds to be picked up in non-league for peanuts if you look carefully.Boyd and Kightly are two recent examples.

I would try for Lambert if Saints don't go up,or Simeon Jackson. He is sufering in a poor side.
