who wrote this in The Mirror, today??

Rumours have been emanating from every pore of the Palace beast over the past week, or so………..with The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go, playing in the background.
Strange times. Strange indeed.
The rudderless ship afloat at sea. The captain/gaffer doing all he can to steer all those aboard through the perilous waters, but patently aware that the speedboat on the starboard bow is ready to be launched at a moment’s notice.
I have a horrible feeling that time has come. I may be wrong. I have been many times before, but I got a sense of finality this weekend.
The page has been turned and a new chapter is waiting.
The rudderless ship bereft of captain. And with him went the cabin boy and half the crew.
Who is next to step aboard?
With no long-term future currently mapped out; the club in administration, buyers maybe, or maybe not, on the horizon, an inability to bring new players into the club and a strong possibility players may go out, I would assume that the job would be seen as something of a poisoned chalice.
So, I thought I’d take a brief glimpse of a few likely candidates for the job.
(This could, and probably will be the biggest case of foot in mouth disease EVER! But, hey, there’s no point in being scared to place your head above the parapet. I assume they’re all very au fait with tongue-in-cheek.)
Iain Dowie – ex-Palace boss. Been intimated to me, that under his stewardship, a lot of pool work was/would be undertaken. Now, I’m no ‘Thorpedo’ - give me 25m with a float and through in the lifebuoy.
Steve Coppell– now, apart from a few handshakes after games the only time I’ve met Mr Coppell was in a bar in Wimbledon Village about 12 years ago. I hope he understands I’m normally much more compos mentis.
Gareth Southgate– apart from the pizza adverts and his own fantastic playing career, I have very little information to report. I assume he doesn’t judge all centre-halves on his cultured self. I’m ******ed if he does!
John Gregory– our paths crossed about 14 years ago at Wycombe Wanderers. He didn’t like me as a player then. I’ve always believed time is a good healer!
Dennis Wise – played with and was managed by Dennis at Millwall. Knew exactly what he wanted out of his team and normally got it.
And if all else fails, and the administrator’s are clutching at straws for a manager, I see no reason why we can’t turn to Paul Daniels. With Debbie McGee as assistant. Sorted!
