Even if Warnock was/wasn't about to sign for us we would probably all prefer Villa to win tomorrow night than Palace. But with the possibility of Colin coming there is extra reason to look at the make up of Aston Villa.
Last week I wrote about the Nottingham Forest model: http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/f...ad.php?t=51576 saying how they finished last season in the bottom half with just 53 points and how with careful spending and the backing of their manager they are one of the favourites for automatic promotion this season. With 15 matches to go they have 8 points more then they achieved for the whole of last season. I do believe next season they are the team we should be trying to replicate whilst in the Championship. However in the long term we should look no further than Aston Villa.
If I had to support a Premiership side then Aston Villa would be my club for the simple reason they are everything I would want for QPR. Good family club who are even prepared to give up lucrative sponsorship deals to help out the charity Acorns. Managed by a very respectable and likeable British manager and a predominantly English side who play good free flowing football. If I asked you to name your top 20 all time QPR players chances are that 18 or 19 would be English. We have a history of producing and playing English men who in some cases have gone on to represent England. At this years World Cup, England could be represented by Milner, Heskey, Downing, Young, Warnock and Agbonlahor. Add the likes of Sidwell, Delph, Harewood, Osbourne, Delfouneso, Davies, L Young and Reo-Coker and you have a top 6 Premiership side made up of many English players.
Even if Forest are a good team to emulate in the short term, Villa are a good team for the Mittals to look to now as well. The spine of the team (Friedel, Dunne, Petrov and Heskey) is made up of experienced 30 somethings and then English kids around them. With the likes of Simpson, German and Balanta we have some exciting youth in our squad who just need an experienced head both in management and on the pitch to guide them. Many fans have said we've lost that family feel but maybe going down the route of English players, English management and more work in the community will not only get that good feeling back but will also help the understanding on the pitch.
