An over riding sentiment towards Marti's style of play is negative football.
Why is he playing this way? I have seen us play extremely positive, creative football at times this year so the team can do it?
Is it as simple as injuries disrupting flow, training, cohesiveness? When we do play well, why do we play well? What are the key factors to a positive performance?
For my part, I do think Marti is too cautious and does hold the players back in terms of what wants them to do. Perhaps he doesn't trust them yet. We don't see alot of flair or individual creativity do we? Maybe our squad does not have it in them, i'd argue they do, even Cook and Dunne have shown flashes of brilliance
, because they are professional footballers and even the ones we say are useless, are actually pretty bloody good otherwise they wouldn't have got to this level. The only player i really see consistently try and effect a game in the oppositions half is Saito. Too often though i don't see any support for him, or an option for his creativity to yield a result.
Perhaps we are lacking that talisman, midfield dynamo, creative number 10. Building a great team takes time, and players have to hit their peaks together and that's really tough. I just feel Marti needs to take more risks, and if that means we lose afew on the way, then we are no worse off than where we are right now. No more square pegs and round holes, lets throw players like Sutton in, let's see if Andersen can thrive in that number 10 (no matter what people say he can connect play really well and pick a pass). Let Saito loose, make sure players run with Smyth to see what he puts in the box not jog up the pitch aimlessly, make youself some space the minute the opposition get near Varane because he can break up play, get posession and just needs something he can do with ball. Same for Ronnie. Tell Nardi and the back line to fire at will when they see space, not hold the ball and wait for a press.
Basically, more freedom.
