I'm not sure about this one.
I remember reading about it and the wife said he didn't do it?
I'm hoping it was evidence rather than reputation that cause this case to go ahead and the guilty verdict found.
"But Wimbledon Magistrates' Court heard in March 2022 that Mrs Barton wrote to prosecutors a month before the scheduled trial to claim she was injured accidentally when friends intervened in an argument between the pair, having both drunk "four or five bottles of wine"."
I'm wondering what evidence they had. But I guess it was enough in which case f** this guy.

CPS have to be pretty sure of a conviction to send something to court and he was found guilty despite the victim withdrawing the accusation.
Barton was a good player who seemed to think he was a great player.
Remember him being described as the footballing bard. Never understood that as could barely string a sentence together.

Mrs did some work for him , he's earned a really good living from football .
Houses here and abroad, racehorses etc .
Not bad for a very limited footballer.
Won't knock him for his efforts at LR ... but come on he's wasn't worth his huge wages ( not were many of them at that time ) .
Surprised at such a lenient sentence .

He was bloody good for us and I know we don't like him but the reaction he got 1st game back from Marseille certainly summed that up. Still what he has done is disgusting and he certainly has issuesI played sunday league football today.
Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.
I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.
We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Doesn't make sense. The wife's version should easily be able to be corroborated by the friends who were present. That'd be at least four people saying it was an accident involving drunken stumbling about.
The police and CPS seem very keen to prosecute even when the injured partner firmly refutes an assault took place. You'd think after the Caroline Flack tragedy they'd be more pragmatic. Still, I imagine Joey's mental condition is robust enough to cope.
Years ago I saw a bloke pushing a lady aggressively at a bus stop. I intervened, he went for me so I had to give him a sharp dig to ribs/liver. He recoiled and she bleeding launched into me screaming like a banshee "don't you hit my fellah!" Effing hell I thought, why bother.... since then I keep well out of it when I see any couples getting shirty with each other.

I too leave arguing couples to themselves. The days of chivalry have long gone. You want equality then take responsibility for your own sh1t. The ones who are "strong independent women who want to be treated like princesses" can go do one!Last edited by SheepRanger; 27-03-2025, 06:20 AM.

A couple of years ago was in Richmond park .
Shouted at the Mrs as she nearly shut my fingers in the boot .
More out of shock than anything .
This fella and his wife and their 20/25 son came over .He told me not to shout at women , told him I agreed with him , told him why I raised my voice ..
His wife then said her bit and they seemed to hang around and wouldn't drop it .
People can easily mis read situations , I adore my other half and she gives as good as she gets .
