Really brainless ineffectual showing against limited opposition that had little more than blood, sweat and tears to offer. Is only February but we looked like we've already got the flip-flops on in readiness for the beach.

After the Derby game where we were superb this was the complete opposite

Teams that graft and battle for everything turn us over far too easy that needs sorting

we need a cf and we need jd to sign a new deal he seems to have the bit a lot of other squad players lack a pair of testicles to put on the line

Portsmouth are clearly an awful team but we have allowed them to "set the tone" instead of taking the iniative ourselves.

Varane's got to come off, he can't cope with these bitty low-quality games and keeps giving the ball away and making dumb fouls in stupid unnecessary areas. Frey on a booking and wandering offside too much probably needs hooking sooner rather than later.

Only positive is I reckon thats as good as Pompey get so if we pull our finger out in 2nd half we should be able to score a couple... I wonder if Marti can do a frothing at the mouth pep talk, it feels like we need it....

Harsh. Pompey fan here. 3 in a row and our home form is one I feel anyone team in the league would be happy with. We’ve played a lot better this season than today and come away with nothing so I’ll take playing poorly and winning today.

Irrelevant who was up front today... our approach was deadly slow, ponderous and ####-easy to defend against. If we had Kane, Salah or Haaland upfront they would have looked lost and isolated and frustrated. Silly old me thought we'd throw the kitchen sink at them in closing minutes but we couldn't even manage to bung 3 up front and welly the ball up to them and as for the surreal sight of "playmaker" Chair pinned in at left back by their right back for whole 7 mins of injury time, well, words fail me!

Missed the first half and both Pompey goals, so i saw the best of us and it wasn't great. Say again i think we need to start Yang, offers something different and some quality.

Thought based on what i saw we were unlucky not to nick a point but did seem devoid of ideas in their box.

Great goal from Jimmy, he looked visibly frustrated with the circumstances when he scored it, a look of why the F am i doing this? Great to see Dembele also, though he understandably didn't do much.

As stated, Portsmouth definitely wanted it more and they are on a good run. We have a real ongoing conundrum playing against teams like Portsmouth, of which there are quite a few in this league. Physicality seems to win out generally and we seem lightweight in those games. We have some skillful players but those teams shut them down fairly easily. I am not sure that Marti understands that if you don't win the physical battle in such games, you probably won't get 3 points. Our most combative player, Colback should clearly have started yesterday. Interesting to see how SU approach our next game. Keep it tight and they could easily win. Open up and we have an excellent chance.
