  • Ronnie Edwards

I think we can already see that Ronnie could be quite a player. I hope we explore every avenue with a view to keeping him. I know there is much talk about Southampton's plight but let's hope we put up a fight. Steve Cook's situation might impact upon this. Recent serious injury/age/high salary.
Steve has been a real hero but we need to be astute. If our improvement is continued, Ronnie might prefer to be with us than in a struggling Saints team.

Saints will be coming down. My suspicion is they will shed a load of players and I can see Edwards being someone they will look to put in the first team squad in the Championship. They paid a fair bit for him, his loan spell with us will harden him up Championship wise and I can really only see him increasing in value.

Would love to be proved wrong and we somehow get him but only way I can see that happening is in unlikely event we go up and spend a little bit.

The way I see Edwards is he is a good quality Championship loan and is type of player we would have struggled to attract in previous years. I am hoping that means we can bolster our squad going forwards with decent quality loans. Having our own younger players doing well will help as illustrates we can develop youngsters and give them opportunities. Lets face it would teams have really sent promising younger players to us in recent years in the hope of improving them? No way!

The imminent issue for Marti is does he put Morrison back in as he seems to want one right and one left footed centre back.

If I'm Southampton, I'm loving this loan, get's him quality game time in the championship for the inevitable return next year.

Edwards looks a good player and would love to keep him.

I think Southampton paid £2.5m rising to 4m to pboro from memory

I’ve said in other threads he was class in a pboro side that went down

if it meant we lost jcs to keep Ronnie jcs decent player but can’t stay fit in this league

Be interesting as soton are going down but he was a Russell Martin player from his pboro links

He’s a local lad to us so never know

There are two types of loan players.
            1) A player who isn't working out at his parent club and the club wants to move him on.
            2) A developing player the club need to farm out for experience.

Ronnie is broadly the second type so best not get attached to him, just appreciate him whist he's here.

You'd think Southampton were well prepared for relegation and merely took the prem money rather than gambling to stay there. I doubt relegation would cause a financial meltdown.

Hopefully he'll settle and enjoy his time with with us, would like to stay and puts in a transfer. We're also closer to his hometown of Harlow.

              Time will tell.

Good take on it and one i'd be all in on given JCS game time seems very minimal.

Going back to my post of 22/01. Ronnie (Edwards) seems to be going really well at the moment. I know that we have to be realistic but is it conceivable that we could keep him? I don't profess to know 100% how these things work out, but if we are as ambitious as I feel we need to be surely we should investigate every possibility. As with Jimmy, surely if he felt part of a forward moving project, this might be preferable to going back to Southampton.

If you were Ronnie come to a club local family support is doing well game time in a side pretty young squad bar 3 players (cook colback and fox) and a manager that likes to play in a style that suits him I reckon knowing his attitude he’s a lad that just loves playing.

Or Goes back to Southampton in a league same as us likely don’t know the manager to potentially sit on the bench unless they have a massive clear out as he’s what 4th or 5th choice cb knowing pboro they’d shove in appearances clauses I don’t think he’s on realms of unaffordable pay anyway and I can see us letting fox and maybe cook go to fund maybe jimmy so I’d like to think he’s someone enjoying it at Rs and we could do a deal

I think next to JD at cb who’s dominant in the air Ronnie ain’t bad in the air but he’s ability on the ball going forward better than our cm options

Not a cat in hell's chance. Contracted to Saints until May 2028. Saints have spent 2 out of past 3 seasons in premier league and picked up prize money nigh on £0.25 billion. They get gates nudging 30K. We mustve picked up about a tenth of that over same 3 seasons and last night's gate was 13K. The idea we are a"better prospect" for him is facile.

My guess is they keep him and play him next season. Anyway, one thing we cannot do is pissaway 30% of our salary budget on a "break the bank" deal for one player. We ought to have a firm salary structure and stick to it. The time to have gone for Ronnie was whist he was still a spotty kid at Posh but we missed the boat. Best thing is to focus on finding the next Ronnie: he's out there somewhere.

Yeah there's no way this lad is staying, even if he wanted to.

Surprised he's not playing in Saints team given how deep in the poo they are. The Blackburn game is also the first time we've really seen him show that quality, let's just hope he can put those kind of games in week in and out while he's here.
