  • Injury Crisis

I've always felt too much has been made of our "crippling injury crisis". I remember a commentator saying we had 8 first teamers out when we played Leeds I think.

Anyway whatever... of the current absentees, who actually walks straight back into the starting line-up?

I think it's only JCS. I'm preferring Saito's directness to Chair's meandering and Colback ain't getting in ahead of Varane or Field. Probably Dembele ahead of Smyth but there's not much in it. I think Celar's ahead of Frey too.... Michi is a bit injury prone and can't do 90mins regularly whereas Zan seems to be a right iron-man.

Yes. Need them all back in the squad but I'm not seeing they bring an obvious uptick in what we've seen this week from the current incumbents.

There is a metric ton in favour of Dembele vs Smyth, and I say that as someone that likes Smyths directness and thinks he only needs a touch of luck to be a good player in this league

There was also Paal on that list too, he'd walk back in.
I think Colback /Chair in rotation over Madsen too would be good.

Frey over Celar right now, but this game time will do him the world of good so I'm also good if he has to earn his way back in if we aren't dropping points.

      Chair
      dembele
      frey
      colback
      jcs

      all starters for me

even if they are not the their lack of Availability seriously impacts our ability compete twice a week

add to that Lloyds inability to stay fit , Sam field’s inability to not get booked our squad is really threadbare.

Dembele doesn't go straight back in for me.
Smythy is frustrating as #### with his final ball decisions, but my god he's everywhere and that makes a helluva difference in any side.
If we continue to pick up points without conceding many i wouldn't change the back 4 either.
Lovely position to be in if we get there

We need more goals and assists from Chair.

Any idea on progress with injuries? Besoccer seems to have pushed them all on but what do they know? I seem to recall some were due back late November which has obviously now passed.

I thought Marti said Frey & Chair early Dec. I took this to mean Oxford 11th Dec????

There's a point to be made for this after Watford game but all prior matches no.

For sure the becnh needs strengthening so there are better options.

                  JCS is straight in.

Colback does come in for the way we had been setting up (defensive).

Argument for Frey vs Celar depending on opponents, lets see Celar have another good game before getting carried away.

Big fan of weening off Chair, he's been a good servant but too selfish and not enough end product, not a good team building block and happy to see Saito performing well.

Dembele has to start given where he was before injury.

Overall though, the wine and last performance seem to be moving this squad of rag tags up a level or two in confidence and long may it continue.

Thing with Chair is he missed most of pre-season as well as 90% of games this season. He might recover from injury and be available for selection soon BUT it'll take him weeks to get up to full match fitness. He'll need a few "B" team outings, a few brief 1st team substitute appearances before he can actually start a game proper. Even then he'll probably only be good for 60mins for a few of those starts. And that all assumes he doesn't break down or get crocked again during this period of reintroduction to the team.

If the Paal reintroduction is anything to go by that's how it will pan out. I doubt Celar will be automatically dropped either following his last two appearances. Im not sure about JCS, but surely Cook could do with a breather?

Some injury news and there seems to be some conflict between Marti and the club about how we manage them.

We need at least one striker in the January window, if Celar in fact has torn his hamstring he will be out for a very long time!

I noticed that in Marti interview too, he doesn’t seem too happy about it, maybe a dig at the Head Physio working from home in Dubai, I wouldn’t be happy about that either to be honest.

Quite possible. That seems crazy for literally a "hands on role".

Also, that we bring in players within a budget and maybe there's an element of damaged goods, that's why they're cheap. In the three seasons before joining us Frey played 68 games including a loan. That's 23 games a season, which maybe down to being frozen out, or possibly injuries?

Also, what is the Director of Performance doing?
