  • Happy Birthday Gavin Peacock

What a fantastic footballer Gavin Peacock was for us. Him and John Spencer were 2 brilliant signings.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Not sure the £2mil we spent on Spencer was the wisest use of our transfer war chest back then... put all our eggs in one basket sort of thing. He was okay but ultimately we didn't get promoted and the slippery slope started.

Scored 22 goals in 48 appearances, wonder what a striker with that goal ratio would cost these days young abs?!

That Naarwich fella who's currently topping the scoring charts was a freebie. Going back to last season, Szmodics cost Blackburn £3m..... it IS possible to find strikers at a sensible cost - just gotta kiss a lot of frogs to find them!

Perhaps we could ask peacock to say our prayer for us , John Spencer always gave 100% ... How we could do with the likes of him today.

                  Absolutely. Just ask J.R.R. Tolkien.

Our lot are beyond prayers now I'm afraid; this is one for the exorcist.

Having said that, in that 1997/98 season we also played some utter garbage football and were very lucky to stay up in the end. That was when our season fizzled out with a gutless home defeat to Bury. The two home games: a 0-1 defeat against Port Vale, and the 1-2 home defeat against ten-man Swindon (goalie sent off if I remember rightly) were almost enough to drive the most Stoic die-hard QPR supporter to suicide if it hadn't been for the 5-0 hammering of Middlesbrough a few days previously.
