  • What do we do about a striker?

It's unanimous? That we have a problem up front. Frey is our best option and he's not exactly an incredible goal scorer. No one else seems able to contribute, Chair quiet (though just back from injury) and Willock gone, those extra little nuggets from number 10 position are not coming in. No goals from set pieces...

You're now in Nourry or Marti's shoes.

How do you solve this by January or do we pin hopes on loaning someone in the next window. Who is available on a free?

    Our striker’s aren’t brilliant for sure .Dare we play a 4-3-3 ?
Like someone said in another post they seem very pensive and unsure in and around the goal. Maybe that’s a reflection on our position in the league which isn’t exactly confidence building. However l still believe we have enough good players to be a decent mid table side. I just think the players need to believe it to. As lve said on here many times we are not looking for the world here just not this awful place at the bottom of the league season after season.
Sunday sermon over thanks for listening

I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

are there any free agents out there who could come in and do a job?

I heard people mentioning Kemaar Roofe - not a bad shout - there must be others - the guy Mousset who played for Sheff utd is also out there .

See if Villa are prepared to sell Louie Barry who at 21 yrs is the leading scorer in L1 for Stockport.

Dykes isn't getting a look in at Brum, so if they bring in another striker in Jan, we could loan him back?

Is it the lack of a quality No.9 though? Yeah Celar ballsed up the one proper chance he had yesterday but I still think it's a team problem rather than a striker problem.
Are there any XG stats available for our recent games? I'm not a fan of these analytics but it feels like our XG is 0.3 or something. If our XG was 3+ I'd be maybe more inclined to agree we need new blood up front but my gut feels we simply do not create nearly enough goal chances so shuffling the pack up front would be futile.

Why not find a gem in non league like the old days. Get someone who is banging in goals, won't cost as much, wages will be cheap. Look at Killman from Maidenhead to Wolves. The sale to West Ham made Maidenhead a lot of money. I know chances are some will not be able to step up to a higher league, but we may just find that goalscorer

I do agree with this. We have struggled for more than just this year, just rpeviously we had attacking midfielders contributing.

We moaned about Lyndon, Chaz (second spell), Wells (though probably one of the better strikers in last few years), Frey, Armstrong so on and so on. Lack of service is an issue.

I don't think any striker brought in would fair too much better, EG a prime time Austin would still struggle, though he would make space, he would put conrers away, he would take chances. Simply put we're not a free scoring team because we are not creating enough chances whether that be from nervousnous around goal, a lack of talent, a lack of positive decision making...

What i reckon we should do is aim for a second string youth or bench warmer from a top team looking to get minutes on a player, and until the focus on set pieces. We can certainly create those, free kick drills and corners. Last 2 games have proven we can grind if nothing else. Now we have to create goeals anywya we can, and that's got to be some good old fashioned graft on the training ground untiml we can break out of this rut, either by finding confidence, cohesiveness or finding someone up top who can make the spaces and take the chances.

I’d be happy if we sacrifice chair going for a decent cf our creativity is also poor we don’t have a cm who can zip a ball and cut a side open having said that there’s not many about it’s all possession don’t lose it mentality

It's not just celars failure to score , it's his overall game that grates me.
He don't jump , runs at defenders then stops a yard short.
Has no instinct in front of goal

Since the Luton win we have managed a paltry 33 shots on target in 9 games, under 4 per game. That's pathetic and says more about our tactics, set-up and approach than any individual.

But.... in last 3 games (which I believe Celar has started them all?) we have managed just EIGHT shots on target, so under three per game. So we might be missing Frey's hustle and bustle a tiny bit but the rot was present before his absence.

More worryingly, in recent games we've needed 6ish shots on target to get ONE goal. So, if we're averaging under 4 shots on goal it looks pretty bleak in terms of us actually winning games..... we've got to get more shots in!

This post could be from the last two seasons as well and it would be perfectly true. Big changes needed and not necessarily the manager
