Positive were Varane who looked composed on the ball, and only other positive must be that the manager must know what we need.

Quite well ? First half not much in it, our defending was really poor, and offered little going forward, they were very clinical with their finishing, but we were way off the pace and a mess second half.

Agree with most of that , we were terrible , we played like it was a pre season game , no pace , no energy and no desire.
Anderson and Smyth tried but their end poduct is poor , especially Smyth.
Field and Colback just sat in front of the back four for the first hour and West brom completely controlled the game , Mowatt and Swift had nobody putting pressure or tackles on them . That was Fields worst ever game for us and we cannot start him and Colback together , they offer absolutely zero creativity or attacking threat.
Dunne was terrible , looked like he was treading water , what is the point of signing that Santos as a right back if he's not better than Dunne. Paal looked disinterested.
As you say Kolli and Lloyd are nowhere near first team quality and need a loan to league 2.
I will reserve judgement on the keeper and Celar but Varane looked okay when he came on .
We desperately need some creativity and energy in midfield , lets hope we are going to sign a few more players at least and we badly missed Chair and Willock .

We can't persist with Jimmy at RB. In the absence of a fit specialist RB I'd actually rather see Smyth there - he lacks necessary finesse to be a winger so maybe his terrier-like approach would be better at fullback?
I'm not sure we like early starts.. I recall noon-ish starts against Millwall and Blackburn where we seemed sluggish and off the pace. Again we seemed "rusty" today and lacked the energy shown by Baggies. That said, I thought last 20mins we found a bit of puff and rhythm so hopefully we can take that level of intensity into full 90 mins of upcoming games.

It was a disappointing showing overall, but the last 20 minutes were somewhat uplifting.

So much will happen between now and 1 September that I refuse to be pessimistic based on one match. Two weeks from now the three behind the striker can be Dembele, Saito and Chair and we will suddenly look a different team.

Varane will probably add quality to our midfield and I expect one more quality signing in that area.

Todays biggest let down was the defence. However, Cook and JCS are normally solid so I trust they will hit back. We might see strenghten in full back positions, so also the defence might look different after 1 September.

Thought our main issues were the full backs were isolated amd exposed and when we pressed high we did it poorly with big gaps in front of our defenders, who were too deep aided and abetted by colback especially being off the pace today and unable to get back as fast as wba attacked. Young guys and Varane show lots of promise.

First game of season, a lot of change at the club with playing staff and football philosophy...the Coach has already proven himself in my view, turned a club on the verge of death, into a serious outside contender in the Championship for the Play Offs this season, bookies are well invested in not losing money, thought I see 11/4 today for top six. Being a Rangers fan is not about the next result, it's always about quality of football, a No.10 and a bit swagger. Not concerned after today.

They were just far better set up than us and had done a lot more on the training ground. They had a plan to draw out Dunne and Paal put the ball over the top into space and did it time and again. Our coaching team in the gantry should’ve seen that and countered it (we could see it in the stand). Smyth looked way too lightweight and went to ground too often and Frey looked like he’d spend a bit too long at the all you can eat buffet over the summer. Other than that a good performance against a largely Premiership team

Smyth just isn't good enough at this level. He's an impact sub and thats being generous. Hopefully dembele and the Japanese lad sign. Let kolli go out on loan along with Lloyd. I'd play anyone at lb instead of paal who is awful. The lad plays like he knows he starts every game as we have no alternative. Poor attitude and a very average footballer. He doesn't want to be here so just get him gone.

Love to see Santos get a bit of game time. Dunne isnt the answer at rb and i am suprised that Mc has doubled down by playing at rb every game in pre season. Lets hope the performances improve. Still early and Mc seems to be standing firm on his stance regarding transfers. The club need to back him.

Romford what was the matter with our so called decent defence? Our centre backs were playing against a striker that has scored 1 goal in 12 games. Then he goes and scores a random hatrick against 2 of our best players from last season, it's certainly unacceptable as Marti claimed too! Problem is we have a brilliant manager that can't make a silk purse from a sows ear, feel for the bloke.

Dunne and Paal were poor, too many crosses from WBA, and for some reason Cook and JCS were out muscled in the air, just think it was an extremely poor team performance, with say least 3 players who should not be starters.

Didn't help that our seasoned pro pairing of cook and jcs gave maja an early Christmas present by allowing him 3 chances with neither of them getting anywhere near the lad. Cook in particular needs to sort his own #### out before digging Lloyd out for the 3rd goal. Poor show from the captain.

Baggies in control of everything in the air yesterday hence two like for like goals. Agree Anderson should be given a rest on set pieces also Kolli just not good enough made us weak on the left. Could go on but not a disaster for me. Only real bummer was 12.30 KO
