  • This season versus last season

After 31 games last season we were 16th with 39 points. However we only picked up 11 points from our last 15 games to finish with 50.

This season we are 22nd with 29 points. To match last season's finish we would need 21 points from 15 games so 1.4 points a game. That would likely see us survive. From Marti's 18 games so far we have taken 22 points which equates to 1.222etc points per game. If you multiply that by 46 we would have finished on 56 points which would have been enough to have finished 16th and 12 points clear of bottom 3. However over 15 games that comes in at circa 18 points which would see us finish on 47 points which may be enough but would be more relying on others falling away.

My personal hope is that with the new signings and with us being relatively injury free (touch wood) we should be able to improve on things meaning the 1.4 points per game to reach 50 points should be achievable and I would be disappointed if we couldn't do that. That said I get the feeling that this season all those in the mix will be fighting tooth and nail for every single point so it will not be an easy ask.

Will be exciting if nothing else although would far rather be sitting comfortably in mid table watching it from above.

While interesting to read, the only thing that has bearing is that Marti has been suffering from a lack of quality for the points he's played for so far. He now has some quality, so we can only hope the team will perform better, our current form suggests yes. I don't think any comparison over the last 12-18 months is valid as so much has changed, other than points to get to potential safety.

What we really, really ,really need to do is win games against those around us, as regardless of how good we are, we are not going to win every game, we are going to want other teams around us to slip up, we can be the cause of that. Don't choke.

The points earned under MC and GA were similar if you take the short lived new manager bounce with a pinch of salt.

We have definately improved with the four new signings so it like comparing apples and pairs. The quality of the squad tends to be far more important than the quality of the manager.

Lose tonight and we're deep in the brown stuff because Bristol City away will be very tough as are out March fixtures.

Tonight is a must win game imo.

Now there's been a transfer window with various ins and outs plus some major changes "upstairs" there's literally no point looking backwards or making comparisons to previous managers now - Marti is operating within an entirely different environment.

We're in a relagation dog-fight, sat in 22nd with a 2pt handicap as it stands.

Plenty of football still to be played, we just need to roll our sleeves up and battle our way through each 90 minutes whilst fully understanding the consequences if we are slack, weak, not "at it" or ill-prepared mentally and tactically for each match day.
