I've often wondered if players could do specific work in the gym to add some distance to their throw-in? Yeah it's crude and annoying to face but you can't escape the fact it's handy when a team has a player who can launch a throw into the box.
Even if we just identified one or two of our players who have a decent throw on them and tried a bit of shoulder training on them to give them a bit more. Can't see how it would do any harm?

How often was our defence put under pressure by defenders putting long throws into or close to our six yard area?
The best we seemed to have was Dykes, but surely we need him in the box to get on the end of these.
We of course benefited from having Stainrod and his long throw in the 1980s.

At last a sensible response rather than the childish ones above.

Have you seen our squad? Have you just noticed our head coach appointment? Do either scream out to you long throws?
We have Dickie, Dunne, Field and Dykes that would be of use.
You want us to sign lower league players who can throw a ball. You think the chap from Grimsby would even start for us? Would he even be in our squad? No.
Yes, they are dangerous situations and can cause chaos but we're a million miles away from that style in terms of personnel and the way our coach plays.

As for our level of football , we are useless at keeping possession from a throw in, let alone create anything from them.
Having Dykes, Dickie etc as targets in the box would be more than enough for Cropper to aim at.
And it won’t turn us into some kind of direct side just because we have a long throw specialist.

The lad is 22 and has played 30 National League games. You only mentioned him because of his long throw ability, you have no clue how good he is. I think it's a pretty big clue looking at his career to date though. Does that mean he can't progress? Nope but it's highly unlikely he will be good enough to play at our level.
However, that's not the point. The main point is you wanting a long throw specialist when our squad isn't set up for that as I pointed out.
Dykes is useless and plays like a boy. Dickie is lightweight also. You need players who are aggressive. Look at Cardiff, they are perfect for it. Players like Flint, Morrison and Moore before he left caused problems. Or Millwall who are a big side with the likes of Cooper, Wallace etc.
We'd have far more chance of scoring from throw ins by being alive and switched on when the ball goes out of play. Having players like Chair and Willock making runs off defenders which in turn drags opposition players out of position and creates space in the box.
Defending teams switch off when the ball goes out, I think we'd have far more success being quick and clever than taking our time and launching a long throw in for opposition goalkeepers and defenders to deal with.
