QPR majority shareholder Ruben Gnanalingam says the club are looking at potential sites for a new stadium outside the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

The club say the local council have been unsupportive of Rangers’ interest in the site of the Linford Christie Stadium.

I thought I read somewhere, many years ago, that before the ellerslie road stand was built, they laid foundations deeper than they needed to be, to accommodate an extra tier in the future? Fact or fiction?

It's inconceivable that the height of ER stand could be raised/moved given it backs onto a load of h0uses. KPF is a complete non-starter for redevelopment into a bigger stadium. Even with unlimited funds there's nothing that can be done on that footprint of hemmed-in land to create a bigger capacity.

Club is already getting away with murder with it's duff lines of sight, ludicrously small concourses and child-sized seating. If modern sensibilities were applied I'd say the footprint of KPF should only support 12000 capacity really.

In response, the council restated its long-standing position that QPR’s owners must pay what the land is worth in order to acquire the site or make way for fan-based ownership.

A council statement read: “We are huge supporters of QPR and are willing to bend over backwards to help them as we have done with Fulham FC and Chelsea FC.

“However, QPR have not been in touch with the council on any plans of substance for over two years. At our last meeting with their CEO, we asked him about why they were apparently struggling to find even the £20m funds to build the Warren Farm training ground.

“We’ve told QPR we cannot gift hundreds of millions of pounds worth of public land to QPR’s multi-millionaire overseas owners.

“We have suggested that if QPR are serious about any site in the borough which they need financial help with that they look into a new fan-based ownership scheme for the club so we can guarantee it is the club that benefits and not their owners.”

I’d call there bluff and say ok we’re off from the area and you lose rates revenue etc to a borough more accommodating

As much as it pains me to say it but I understand the Council's stance, why would they sell land below market value to entities that could in theory just fark off with the profits?

                    I get that too.

the club owners can afford to buy the land and recoup much of their money by redeveloping the current stadium as housing and selling them off like Arsenal did.

                      QPR's reply to H&F

As a club we were in discussions with a third party which is frequently used by the council. Via this third party we approached the council to request a meeting. This request was rejected by the council.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos said: “Clearly the consultants misinterpreted the response they received from the council as they reported to us that Stephen Cowan did not want to meet anyone from QPR.

“We are delighted to hear they want to ‘bend over backwards to help’ and now look forward to meeting Mr Cowan at his earliest convenience.

“This will also enable us to clear up this strange notion that we are asking for government funding, which has never been the case. There also appears to be similar confusion regarding our new training ground. We have since purchased a fantastic site in Heston and work began last month on a £20m complex.

Or very shrewd manipulation putting the council into a corner regarding their comments.

Either way it would seem that Mr.G is a canny operator.
