  • just a thought...

I was thinking, why cant the club just buy the houses behind Ellerslie road and build a second tier onto it rather than moving to a new stadium and waiting about.

In that second tier, you could easily put better facilities in it such as a better press area and more VIP seating to generate extra matchday revenue

Overall, you could well add an extra 4k or 5k seats to the capacity, so your looking at 22k/23k.

I think that alone would be good enough for us, I think a size around 20k-25k is enough for us imo.

Think they've probably looked into this . I love LR and would love to stay . I suppose if enough £ is offered up then any house is for sale

I shudder to think how much money that would cost even before the cost of the new stand. You can do that and you could be left with one to buy and they'd hang out for millions. I would pretty much guarantee it wouldnt be financially viable. And we'd still be left with a stadium that couldnt provide other income streams.

You would more than likely have to knock down the whole stand and redo the foundations. That would mean closing the road for a year plus finding somewhere else to play for a season. You would still be left with no parking and still using the place only on matchdays.

We tried that after the war, we bought 39 house on Ellerslie Rd, sadly it did not work out and all were sold some years later.

Rangers settled back in at Loftus Road and opted for making the best of what they had, winning their first seven consecutive matches back at the ground which they fortunately – as had first been planned – had not been sold when they moved to White City. They spent much of the rest of the decade knocking on the door of promotion to the Second Division, and in 1938 the supporters club raised £1,500 to cover the terrace on the Loftus Road side of the ground. Rangers finally made it to the Second Division in 1948, they purchased the freehold to the stadium and 39 houses on Ellerslie Road for £26,250, all financed by a share flotation that raised £30,000 for the club.

Life in the Second Division, however, proved to be a struggle. The post-war attendance boom had pushed crowds over 20,000 at Loftus Road, but Rangers didn’t really find their feet at this higher level, lasting just four years before being relegated back, having not finished above halfway in the table throughout their stay. They were relegated back in 1952, and in 1953 finished in 20th place in Division Three South, their lowest Football League position since 1926. Furthermore, the club’s relegation coincided with the start of the long, slow decline of attendances in this country. By 1958, Rangers’ average attendance had fallen back below 10,000. The houses Ellerslie Road bought a decade earlier had to be sold again, to balance the books.

I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

I seem to remember Liverpool having this problem when they were building the Centenary stand, 2 elderly sisters would not sell their house to them, held the Scousers up for quite a while, probably Evertonians, bless em.

There are a couple of realistic developments with LR that the club could do.

              1. There is some space behind the Loft End, perhaps the club could look at maybe putting in a pub/restaurant there that could be open on non-matchdays and matchdays as well, that could give the club some extra revenue.

              2. You could remove the roof on the stands and put in a new one which would get rid of the restricted views of the pitch, that for me is quite possible.

              3. The Ellerslie Road could be expanded, would require some houses to be knocked down, but again, I think that option is possible.

It is perfectly possible to play at LR throughout the development works, just look at what Liverpool when they redeveloped their main stand.

The expansion of the ground was looked into as part of the feasibility study into moving. All options were not deemed economically viable, hence the focus on moving.

Fulham have been cracking on at CC for a few years without the Riverside stand , still don't get how our fans sit in SAR the seats are so tight .

We should have had White City Stadium made smaller but still owned the surrounding land for other ventures like hotels and carparks...oh well.

If the owners are serious about needing a new ground why not build it alongside the new training facility.

I suspect from the noises made from QPR local borough council that the LC stadium is being targeted as a cheaper option.

We should have bought the land once the school was demolished.

It's the non match day revenue we are missing...

                              Three points on this,

If we did secure the houses on either/both Ellerslie Road/Loftus Road we could build on/over the gardens and then just sell the houses again or rent them but i'm not sure we'd even get the owners to sell them,
Secondly, getting planning permission for anything in streets as tight as around LR would be another nightmare.
Thirdly if you look on google map (there are other maps available) the only logical place for a new ground is somewhere in Park Royal industrial estate, good transport links, plenty of parking(nights/weekends), no neighbours to moan, plenty of potential space for Hotels/function rooms etc and a big cage for the 'wall fans on Saturday who were a disgrace, punching 12 year olds.

P.S. The OB on Saturday were something to behold, along the Uxbridge Road after the game there was about 30 of them in riot gear acting like an army platoon giving it the old hup, hup, hup
