I don't dispute he's a good bloke, but he is not the right man for the job, regardless of your relationship to him. That should not blind the fact he should never have had the job in the 1st place. Granted, he was unfairly sacked, but agin...not the man for the job. Being a nice guy is not enough. They all seem to like Mick too, but would you keep him?

        Exactly.

I'd be prepared to wait a week if it meant we made the right appointment in Warnock.

As for Dowie, I'm not sure we should be placing too much emphasis on one game against Swansea - no matter how abysmal it was - think we've seen some pretty dire performances under all our managers at some time and for some time tbh.

            How long though Benny?
If it's the next 7-10 days, fine.

But if the signs are that we have to carry on as we are while Palaces adminitrators decide who the next owners are, and whether they want Warnock, or not, etc... then we have to have a cut-off point, surely?

We can't leave all this for weeks, and carry on with Harford (even Harford said that!) - we don't have 2/3 weeks to spare anymore.

Goddard, of course there is a time limit mate, but Monday is ridiculous. They have a huge cup game on Wednesday. If they go out, he will no doubt join us. If they stay in, he will either stay and try to see it out or alternatively he will bow out on a high. Either way, I think trying to force his hand is wrong. Like I said on another thread, hireing Dowie just because Warnock wants a few extra days to ponder the offer is an appointment out of panic...nothing more. Now, I like Dowie and although I never wanted him in the 1st place, I also feel he wash harshly dismissed. This does not mean I have changed my mind as I still do not want him in charge. I just don't feel he's the right man for the job.

Put it this way...If Warnock took over, I'd lay my mortgage on us surviving. If Dowie gets the post, I wouldn't even part with a fiver.

Just don't get the Dowie love fest. He had a decent season at Oldham yonks ago, a decent season a Palace then took Palace down, left Charlton at the foot of the table and got the boot at Coventry when they were 4th bottom, spunking up a lot of money at both Charlton and Coventry on crap signings. Had an ok time with us taking out the cup run but his only wins in the league were against teams that finished below us - we didn't beat any of the teams that finished above us during his tenure.

Oh and he likes Borrowdale - that should be reason enough not to bring him back.

And lied about leaving Palace to join Charlton and that was proved in court and lost a case to Jordan - hang on I'm beginning to see where he fits in now...

I don't like this til the end of the season talk, we want a manager to see us thru the year, promotion and into the prem. Everyone keeps talking about stability.

I agree with letting him have his cup game, but not a day more.
There has to be a line here.

Not my number one choice for the job, but I also agree that he would keep us up.
What I certainly don't agree with is your very last line, because I don't see a huge difference between the two managers (Warnock and Dowie) and their recent achievements.

But two out of three isn't bad(!).

Benny my opinion of him is not based on 1) the fact I know him or 2) the fact he is a nice guy. What supporters don't realise and see in the manager of football clubs is all the things that go on behind the scenes. How this manager interacts with his players, how the players respond to him, the level of respect he commands, his training method, his personal skills as a manager in dealing with players personal lives away from the game and what he gets back and demands from his squad. He is a football man through and through. Yeah he may be ugly but he too like Warnock knows this league inside out. I be more than happy for him to return based on what I know of him as a Football Manager on the field and at the training ground.

Talk to the players and find out their views on him as a manager and you'll find out first hand how rated he is. Also remember we are a Championship side, not world beaters so we have to have realistic expections not fantasy ones. He is a man who could quite easily if SUPPORTED CORRECTLY take us up!

agree that we should wait until after the replay for warnock, he won't want to leave palace in the lurch like that and if we put an ultimatum on him now he'll (to quote garry cook) bottle it.

i realise we don't really have the time to waste with this but warnock is probably worth the extra risk compared to dowie.
