We are only going one way and that is not up.

We have changed managers quite a few times and still are performing the same so it can't be the manager.
The only other common denominators since 2015 are Les Ferdinand, Lee Hoos and the Owners.

I believe Lee Hoos has done a terrific job improving our financial position each season.

Whatever we think of the Owners they are still paying the bills and contributing each month to keep us in existence.
Unfortunately they don't seem too interested in the club anymore.
Ideally Amit would be more hands on and then we would not need a DoF.

The DoF role in my opinion is not required (could be covered by Amit and Lee Hoos) and not supported through the transfers above and our ongoing decline through a poor squad and results.

In my opinion Ferdinand has had 6 years to improve matters and he has not. He has bought poor players, many costing us a lot of money.
We still don't have good full backs, a quality central midfielder or a goalscorer.
He has recruited managers that have not met the mark or followed a clear direction. Each manager changes strategy - which should be set by the DoF.
Les Ferdinand is a far bigger problem than Warburton and needs to be sacked now.

It's definitely the manager. With the players we have we should be 12th. The DoF has done a sterling job in getting our net player costs (fees and wages) down from £billions to roughly £75, he should be elevated from Sir Les to Lord Ferdinand of White City in my opinion.

Dof liaise with managers and scouts to sign players . A lot of those players would have been wanted by various managers down the years .Feel free to post the signings made by Warnock / Hughes / Redknapp when Fernandez bought the club . That’s the real reason we are where we are today .

No it’s def not all down to the DOF. But it’s also not zero to do with him either. His performance has been pony - players and managers Just look at that list FFS.

If you actually go through that list properly , you can see the vast majority of those players are free transfers and trainees . That’s the world we have been living in since ffp kicked in . We have been trying to cut the wage bill for the last 3/4 seasons , that will obviously lead to a bigger turn over of players .it’s actually an achievement to still be playing at this level and having to bring our own youngsters through the system is an added bonus . It seems strange that some fans have completely wiped the Fernandez crazy spending era from their memory but are happy to lay the blame at door of the ones that have had to try to fix the destruction he caused .

Don't envy Sir Les' job. One hell of a mess to clean up, no real player development system in place, no money. Has not been pleasant but we are still in Championship and now have players coming through.

Easy to be critical with hindsight but only poor managerial appointment on the face of it was Ollie and stories suggest that was more an Uncle Tony decision.

Personally think more a matter of expectations. Budget wise we have a small budget and our current league position reflects that budget. We have no right to expect to have a good quality squad. We spent a few million on strikers and they are not world beaters, no surprise. Particularly with strikers a few million buys you next to nothing these days. We needed bodies with the hope they might improve as we had literally nobody up top. I am frustrated with our current run and Warburton's seeming reluctance to try anything new.

Need to look long term. Only way we will see significant improvement is a new ground and investment that comes with it. Until we reach that promised land, and that is years in the future, we are a small Championship/League One side. We will have some highs and also some lows.

Good analysis there , there’s no doubt we had a bit of a punt with the parachute payments , with chery , polter and Washington etc. Which you would expect your club to do . From that point onwards we have cut our wages massively and brought through our own players .Give me that all day long over Barton , Swp , bosingwa and all the other wasters that came for the money .

i Can't see how it is the DOF fault - when the manager pick the team!

Nice analysis - hard to argue with any of your comments on the players. The DOF has to take at the very least SOME responsibility for that lot - surely? Otherwise why have we got a DOF other than to deflect attention away from our absentee owners? Perish the thought!

We are only going one way and that is not up.

We have changed managers quite a few times and still are performing the same so it can't be the manager.
The only other common denominators since 2015 are Les Ferdinand, Lee Hoos and the Owners.

I believe Lee Hoos has done a terrific job improving our financial position each season.

Whatever we think of the Owners they are still paying the bills and contributing each month to keep us in existence.
Unfortunately they don't seem too interested in the club anymore.
Ideally Amit would be more hands on and then we would not need a DoF.

The DoF role in my opinion is not required (could be covered by Amit and Lee Hoos) and not supported through the transfers above and our ongoing decline through a poor squad and results.

In my opinion Ferdinand has had 6 years to improve matters and he has not. He has bought poor players, many costing us a lot of money.
We still don't have good full backs, a quality central midfielder or a goalscorer.
He has recruited managers that have not met the mark or followed a clear direction. Each manager changes strategy - which should be set by the DoF.
Les Ferdinand is a far bigger problem than Warburton and needs to be sacked now.

I couldn't agree more. I have said it for a while now, but without the stats to back it up.
We have gone backwards since the day he came back , initially as an advisor to Fernandes, then as DoF.

He needs to be sacked along with MW. His wages could probably pay for 2 players.


Other clubs have a director of football which includes to a large extent how the teams should be playing and they scout for suitable players and managers who share the philosophy i.e. Brentford, Midtyland, Red Bulls clubs.
This way when managers and players move on the club can continue where they left off.

Yes, the wage bill has come down dramatically, but that has largely been down to contracts running down or being paid off. And anyway, the other contracts paid since are surely mostly down to Hoos , the finance managing director or whatever title he holds.

Of course the managers and players have to take responsibility too, but who hired them? The DoF.
