  • Grant Hall

Some supporters criticized Ferdinand and Warburton for letting Hall leave. Many of us thought it made a lot of sense.

OPINION: QPR were 'absolutely' right to let 29-y/o leave last summer - The 72

In hindsight it looks a very good decision - he is out with long term injury again and has played just three matches for Boro.

Let’s see if the usual suspects come on and praise the board for that decision, I doubt it .

In April 2020, you posted (like some of us had also done) that you would have extended his contract on favourable terms.

This is your reply to Abseits post,

"He’s played 30 games so far this season , that’s a fair amount .Decent championship player and we are hardly in a financial position to splash the cash on a replacement. Maybe a 1 year deal on reduced wages with the incentive of a 2nd year should he play a certain amount of games would be sensible."

Yes, he is not starting as often as he would like, but it was a poor decision by the club to see him for £150k, when he would have been a regular in our team and no doubt scoring and creating goals (yes, he would have cost us a few goals too, but no more than Wallace and Hamalainen who aren't helping the goals for column).

He was earning something like £6k pw and selling him is hardly saving the club a lot of money (they are paying Wallace more).

But there were reports that 'he had outgrown QPR'.

I agree £150k isnt a huge amount in football terms but it brought in money and freed up wages for another player in a positions where we needed it more. Also, remember we didn't have income from crowds either.

Still the right decision the move a player on who didnt want to be at the club and his performances in pre-season were truly shocking and I was glad he was sold in the end.

As for we sold him on the cheap - well if he cant get a game ahead of Bidwell all that premiership £5m talk was clearly nonsense.

I suggest we just let it go - it's all in the past. You also have to remember there are two parties involved (well three if you include buying club) and maybe these players just wanted away for personal or financial reasons. Maybe we wanted rid of Grant? Maybe he wanted away? Who knows? Who cares? He's gone and we now have Rob Dickie.
it seems that squads in 21st century are a constantly evolving thing with several ins and several outs over every 12 month period - fact is, in 13 months I'd say 10 of today's squad will have gone - it's the way it is. If you start harking back to former players you'll soon be tracking the careers of dozens of players - makes more sense to focus on the ones here today I think.

I stand by that statement Stan , what the club needs credit for is not giving in to Halls demands of a 3 year deal , what part of that are you struggling with , and where do you get the favourable terms bit from when you can see I clearly said reduced wages .It’s also a bit sad you went right back to April to find a post when all it does is prove my point .

Spot on, but I think the opening post is more about a defence of Sir Les, which is quite fair given the amount of critisism regularly coming his way, imo..

True. They’re gone and we should just move on. I was just responding to the post’s comments. It’s best when there are no posts regarding ex players and how they are performing at their new clubs.

Stains I am not struggling with the comment , reduced terms, favourable terms what’s the difference really? It still meant QPR paying him less.
and was in no way suggesting that QPR should have given in to Hall’s demands. Well done for that.

Your comment came across as if you were looking for me and others to praise the club for guessing that he would get injured. The club doesn’t deserve praise for that though, injuries can happen to any player at any time.

it seems you think it’s ok for you to pick earlier comments to criticise others though. Like when you thought I was critical of Bonne after asking for him to be signed (when all I did is question his fee).

There’s a big difference between favourable terms and reduced terms , that’s quite obvious .The club does deserve credit for not pushing the boat out to keep Hall especially as we all agree we are a centre back short in the squad right now . It goes to show we won’t be held ransom by any player we believe we can’t afford. It’s clear you struggle to give the club credit for anything which I find strange as a fan .
