However, back-to-back defeats against promotion rivals Brentford and Leeds United in the last 10 days have dented those hopes of an instant return to the top flight.

Mitrovic has been punished retrospectively after accepting a charge of violent conduct by the Football Association.

It means he will miss Tuesday’s west London derby at QPR as well as Fulham’s games against Birmingham and Nottingham Forest.

Both have lost their 2 matches so far, but we lost to relegation threatened sides compared to promotion chasers Brentford & Leeds.

If we are as inept tonight, Fulham could hit 3 or 4 against us even without Mitrovic.

The R’s boss was only able to name seven of the allotted nine substitutes for the clash with the Addicks as with injuries and the U23s on furlough, he simply didn’t have the players available to do so.

Speaking on the club website ahead of the Fulham clash, Warburton revealed that with the return to fitness of a number of men he now has 18 outfield players available so they will be able to name a full matchday squad this evening.

He hinted that some of the younger, less experienced members of his squad “may well get a lot of good pitch minutes” moving forward.
