Sheff Wed fan here.. he did ok for us. Came in at a time when we’d just been taken over and had money to spend on players. First season the football was fantastic, finished 6th and lost in the playoff final, plus had a cup run beating Arsenal and others. Second season the football was more attritional but we finished 4th, had a few injuries to key players creeping in which affected performances. Then we lost a cagey playoff semi final to Huddersfield when they were there for the taking really, we basically went for a 0-0 in the away leg so that lost him some support.
After that it went down hill and things got stale, as you might expect after two failed playoffs. We had a ridiculous number of injuries last season, partly caused by his reluctance to take physical conditioning in training seriously (prefers to focus on ball work) so by Xmas we were lower mid table and he got the chance to go to Swansea. His replacement Luhukay was completely clueless, and probably the only reason we aren’t top 6 again this year. Since he went Steve Bruce has got 35 points from 19 games.
But with Carlos, he’s very charismatic and likeable, enjoys playing passing football but needs the players to do so. He doesn’t seem to like wide players or pace, so if you don’t have the players to play his style it can be one dimensional. Wherever he’s gone he seems to give the place an initial lift, as he did at Swansea too, but then turns too defensive for the important games. I guess he has a shelf life, but not many managers in this league last more than a couple of years anyway so not sure that’s a huge issue. Also seems to leave the transfers to third parties, so he’s more of a continental style coach than an old school manager as you might expect
