Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.
I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.
We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

And until we do, we will struggle. Simple, really.
I'm not confident re SMac's defensive coaching abilities, sometimes we're way too deep, sometimes we're higher, sometimes we press and it just seems random.
I just don't like the look of the back end one little bit. Needs sorting.
Does SMC have a defensive coach to assist him? If not, he needs one. QPR have a very slow back 4 and if no speed is added, then they neeed to be more disciplined and fully focused on the game.
I think they need to bring in 2 new defenders because I doubt that Hall will be fully fit any time soon.

The back is iffy and need protecting but the midfield seem not to be bothered by that. Our full backs get exposed game after game as our wide players do not track back. Pawel should be RW to help out Rangel who will do ok and get someone on the left to help Bidwell out who gets done 2 on 1 every game as well.

This doesn't mean I want Ollie back. If you actually bothered to look at what people have said before jumping in eyes wide shut, you'll know that the one worry for me re Smac was defensive frailty and that I actually pointed this out BEFORE the deal was confirmed, so I'm not having any of this four days nonsense. The whole world knows that he isn't a defence coach, teaching them to play the ball out is not defensive coaching however welcome. We need someone to get them back to basics, doing the routines and the calls day in day out until they can cover in their fvckin sleep. Thats how you do it.
And in any case, a quality defensive coach has nothing whatsoever to do with windows.

And we don't need new CB in the remaining days of the loan window then?

<sighs> All back lines need to be properly set up and properly drilled, doesn't matter how much individual ability is involved.
Thats why teams with great defenders can still look chaotic at the back, you only have to look at the EPL for evidence. Contrast that with say Arsenal of the invincibles era, or AC Milan in their pomp, or Scum under Jose when he first sorted them. Difference isn't ability, the difference is in the know how.
Talent helps, but organisation is paramount. I'd like to see a fit Grant Hall back soon, but our defensive coaching remains suspect. The last great defensive performance we put in was at Wembley. That's a long time ago.

My view is that our back line is good enough, with proper coaching, to stay up. But if we want to get to around 10th and have an outside chance of the play offs we need an additional experienced championship CB and another LB to compete with Bidwell. The current crop don't seem to be able to organise themselves during the game, very poor communicationLast edited by SheepRanger; 28-08-2018, 04:45 PM.

Does anyone recall how shambolic QPR's defence was under Ramsay and everyone blamed the defenders? Yet when Warnock took temporary charge, those same defenders kept 3 clean sheets in 4 games.
Also, coaches like Allardyce and Pulis take charge of teams and also get clean sheets from defences that leaked goals.
I know McLaren is not a defensive coach which is why I asked if he has one to assist him. If he doesn't then he needs to get one in asap.

The fact remains though that we have been without a credible defence coach for ages. There's a case for saying that loan funds for a CB would be as well or better spent on on a defence coach.
I think Clint has the makings for that role, he's always had tactical nous and he'd get them working. I certainly can't see him being any worse than some of our recent staff additions......
