Not really. Just means were actually using a scouting system unlike some(Waghorn for 8 million is quite frankly embarrassing business). Agree about the contracts though especially with the kids. A decent coach should be able to tell whether someones got it or not and we should be tying assets like Eze, Smyth, BOS etc down to long deals on money that would be an improvement to them but stay well within our budget. I bet the players coming up through the ranks are on peanuts for a first pro contract. Thats the time to strike, before they blow up like Eze has. It won't be long before a big club comes sniffing round him. We should have been getting a 4/5 year deal ready for him on his return from Wycombe.

We’re doing our homework due diligence and no longer being taken for mugs anymore. Long may it continue and think it’s safe to say we have now turned a corner

this. even though its not fun for us watching all the slow news its best for the club. dragging out deals for players who want to leave their clubs is best for us.

why pay over the odds just to get the deal done? none of us would do it irl

65m quid for Harry Maguire now. Decent player, but that fee is just daft. Could have signed him for a 3rd of that before the World Cup!

I agree and this is why I was saying Eze and Smyth even Manning and BOS should be offered new longer deals with incremental pay rises and have buy out clauses worth £millions so that they don't get prised away for peanuts like Smithies. £8M for Waghorn and £3.5 for Smithies!

Anyone could have seen how promising he was when he was at Hull and signed him for 15-20 m like Leicester did.

Are you saying that this is the right kind of value for him in the current market?

Crazy for a player whose legacy to-date is based around a successful stint in one of the worst top divisions in Europe and 16 goals for Ipswich...

In the current market that saw Walker sold for £50m and Van Dyjk £75m , yes.

Is the market over priced , yes.

I agree totally that the market is overpriced even to the point of insanity. Selling clubs are holding buying clubs to ransom by demanding such high fees for average players which for their standard now even just 4 years ago would cost half as much. Maybe even only a 3rd of their current prices. Ffp will bite them on the bum soon enough, especially championship sides. There is absolutely no way they can carry on like they are. Especially if they don't go up. They are spending like premiership sides a few years back. We didn't even spend like they are doing now.

Are you suggesting we're going to get relegated if he does end up being our only signing? Which, by the way, I don't think will happen.

£3 million for a goal scorer from Peterborough.....sounds familiar?

Not suggesting we'll get relegated. Hoping Schteeve gets us playing to a system that the players are comfortable with and plays a consistent XI. If the aim is higher than last season one new defender won't have us 'challenging'.

Yes, but how many did Washington score before joining QPR for £3m, probably less than 20.
Edit: Just checked and 27 in 82 games. So definitely less than 20 before mugs went and paid the fee.
