We've had a difficult season with a few players being shown the door, and the realisation dawning that we need to operate on a much lower budget moving forward. Holloway has done a good job of holding everything together, even if it has been pretty frustrating and ugly at times.
After this summer, what we are likely to be left with is a squad of very talented but inexperienced players. Next season we will almost definitely have the lowest average age in our squad that we have ever had. To me, it makes sense to have a manager in place that is used to working with young players. Someone tactically astute, who knows how to develop technically gifted youngsters. Even Ollie's biggest fans wouldn't claim him to fit that description.
For me, this is a watershed moment. The last of the big earners are going. A new breed of exciting new players are coming through. This is the ideal time for some fresh ideas and a new direction. Harsh on Holloway of course, who has exceeded expectations in terms of league position this season. But let's face it, plenty of managers here have been fired more harshly in recent years!
