  • how long for coppell?

So, lets imagine come the summer we get Steve Coppell to take over.
Gianni makes way from the sporting director role and Coppell is given full control over first team affairs.
We shift a few fringe players and coppell brings in a couple of full backs, a new striker and a centre half.
Pre season goes well, we beat Aldershot, Wycombe and Tesco night shift without conceeding a goal.
The messageboards are in melt down and the fans are buzzing, anticipation is running high and the 7th August can't come soon enough.

We Draw the opening game of the season 0-0 and then lose the next game away 1-0. After 14 games we have won 4, lost 3 and drawn 7. Out of the 7 draws, 5 have been 0-0. We sit 12th in the table, 6 points off the play offs
We can see the defence has tightened up but are struggling to score at the other end.

So, who would this start be acceptable for and which fans would be giving coppell some stick?

that would be acceptable imo...the next manager should be given at least a full season. unless we lose the opening 14-15 games.

Coppell is a proven quality manager who understands the "english" game..been there and has the t-shirt so ...the monkeys in the boardroom won't take a punt on him!! I expect another fella from abroad to take the reins..ie fb to pick the team(if he decideds to stick with his plan!!)

It would be acceptable from me. if we finish mid-table it would show the current system does not work and it will need to be addressed end of season.

That is true Mutley, a 29% win ratio.....not far of Super Paulos 26% win ratio with the R's.

                  Oh wait a sec...

                    employ a proven manager
                    give him a decent budget
give him full control on all transfers in and out
tactics, subs ect are his decision only

if carlseberg did football clubs it sure as **** would not be qpr

welcome back w12. U and clunge have actually been missed
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

As much as i would obviously like to see coppell fully backed for the season, I can't help but worry about a poor start leading to impatience and cries from certain fans to oust the manager. Or will that be different if the director of football role is abolished?

Such a win ratio though would surely be unacceptable regardless how tight our defence was. After all pts win prizes and that kind of start to season would surely only have us er....midtable. The thing is the Tel the whole reason we have a DoF is to educate the coach/manager providing constructive advise and guidance to the coach/manager when he needs it, thats why we need him isn't it?

That is what he SHOULD be doing, but from what i've heard, the players take the mick out of him behind his back as he regularly gets names wrong and apparentley shows a very poor understanding of the game.

Perhaps we should just use GP to negotiate contracts and tie up transfers?

I have heard he does have the mikey taking out of him as well by a large group of players....apparently they mimick his accent behind his back. This I think is a bit out of order as we do have squad full of players from various nations....I hope its just not the English based players as this would possibly promote racial disharmony amongst the squad. If he is guilty of getting peoples names wrong maybe he was misheard calling Super Paulo a ****, maybe he was really refering to someone else but got their name muddled up?

You know the alternative could be to get in highly qualified Contracts Negotiator, from my own personal experinece some of those Public Sector contracts can be a legal minefield, surely this skill is transferable to football by getting someone in who has big experience organising and writing highly complex contracts. If anything Paladini's lack of understanding of the game does demonstrate stepping into such a role without a football background is possible.

Maybe the club or certain individuals don't want such a maticulous book keeper on board....which does worry me a little if our rumoured £50 million debt is to be believed.
