MORITZ Volz is ready to be handed a QPR contract until the end of the season - providing the former Fulham player is willing to play midfield and his favoured right-back position.
The 27-year-old came through 85 minutes for Rs reserves yesterday in a 3-0 defeat behind closed doors away to Reading - but did enough to suggest he can help kickstart Hoops’ play-off campaign.
Your favourite local paper can reveal Volz has been paying out of his own pocket to get fully fit after enrolling at the Sports Dimension gym in Stamford Brook in a bid to finally shake off a groin injury incurred more than a year ago at Ipswich.
At the time, Volz was managed by Jim Magilton, who left Rangers in a cloud of acrimony before Christmas.
But before he left, Magilton remembered the former U21 German international for two things.
He said: "He was a cracking little player - but he used to drive the secretary mad with all the bus receipts he wanted repaid when he wasn’t cycling to training."
A QPR insider said: "We need Moritz to play in two positions - and he did have games for Fulham in midfield as well."
I just cannot believe legs will be put back into MF. I asume Faurlin will be dropped, our best MF by some way. Legs plus any other player in the centre has proved woeful more often than not. He is the common denominator in all the poor partnerships. Who the hell is picking this team. It would be laughable if it was not so depressing
