Following on from hhrangers thread about which players we would like to see play for us next season made me think about which teams will be having a clearout as soon as the season ends. The one obvious team is Manchester City. If January was anything to go but it will be a busy summer at Eastlands with many new arrivals which means there will also be many departures.
So who will definitely be leaving? Who won't be leaving but could be tempted for a loan move and who could we possibly buy?
Manchester City Players Leaving on a Bosman:
Defenders: Michael Ball, Shaleum Logan, Danny Mills & Gláuber
Midfielders: Kelvin Etuhu & Dietmar Hamann
Forwards: Darius Vassell
NOTE: Daniel Sturridge is also available on a Bosman put contract talks are supposedly on going. If he were to leave he will no doubt stay in the Premiership.
My View of the Bosmans:
Logan is a product of the Man City academy but has very little first team experience so would be a risk. Mills is still recovering from a long term injury and is now considered "injury-prone". Glauber is a centre back with plenty of experience but this isn't a position we need strengthening. Of all the defenders Ball is the stand out player. We need a left back and he has always been a very good player - I think he would excel at this level.
Etuhu is a right winger, which is a position we are strong in so not required. Hamann may have lost some speed but at this level he could be exactly what we need - a better version of both Mahon and Leigertwood. As for Vassell, well unfortunately he never lived up to expectation. He wouldn't be a starter for us but would be a very useful squad player.
Manchester City Players who won't get much first team action:
GK's: Kasper Schmeichel & Joe Hart
Midfielders: Gelson Fernandes & Michael Johnson
Forwards: Benjani, Ched Evans & Valeri Bojinov
My View of those who won't get much first team action:
Hart is likely to be Given's number two and even if he was loaned out the deal would probably feature a 24 hour recall - not really what we want. Schmeichel could be an option but if we are to sign a keeper this summer it has to be someone who in the long term takes over from Cerny and isn't just at the club waiting to be recalled. Johnson would only be available on loan but would be a very good signing if we could do that. Fernandes isn't required. Evans is now 6th or 7th choice striker at City so although I don't think he will be sold I do think he'll go out on loan. Bojinov won't get much action but I don't expect him to turn up at HQ anytime soon. I'm unsure of Benjani. Man City no longer need him but is he too good for the Championship?
After another loss at the weekend it might not be too long before their manager also becomes available.
I wouldn't be upset if the only players we signed this summer were:
Kasper Schmeichel - £500K
Michael Ball - BOSMAN
Dietmar Hamann - BOSMAN
Michael Johnson - LOAN
Ched Evans - LOAN
Darius Vassell - BOSMAN
Benjani - LOAN
