  • Leigertwood and Watson

Does anyone else think that because Leigertwood smashes up play and continues moving forward with the ball that Watson is having to hold back? Naturally Watson is the attacking midfielder whereas Leigertwood is the defensive midfielder but in the last couple of games Watson hasn't been able to support the front two and is playing an unnatural game.

I was impressed with Watson earlier on in the season but recently he has been holding back and he isn't suited to this role. If I were Hart I would like to see Watson alongside Mahon before making any long term investment.

I dont think we should buy Watson in January, try to get him on loan for the rest of the season maybe but he hasn't shown enough to warrant a big money transfer.

The casual pass back towards our goal against Sheff Utd was nothing short of abysmal!!

Watson has hardly played CM with Legs due to Legs playing RB, and Watson has still be p.iss poor.

I think that on Saturday Watson had orders not to cross the half way line!
He certainly played a deep holding role in the first 75 minutes, the only time we saw him in the enemy's half was for free kicks. Of course he was let lose in the last 5 minutes when he managed that header against the bar.
He is naturally a box to box/attacking midfielder and when he has played that role I have been impressed - but the other role just doesn't suit him and when he's played it he has been a waste of space.
Once again he has been a square peg in a round hole :anger:

Agree but when he played alongside Rowlands he was twice man of the match because Rowlands knew when to hold back and when to move forward. Leigertwood doesn't seem to know what his role is and therefore what Watson's is either.

Then its up to the manager to tell the 2 CMs what their role is. Who attacks who sits deep etc.

I agree but it must be tough for the guy - how many different managers in the space of a year has he had telling him how and where to play.

Like of footballers Watson needs consistency.
