  • Question For the Older QPR Fans

, I'm guessing the average age on here seems to be around 30-40, but my question for any older fans is:

Do you worry that you are losing touch with QPR a bit? I'm 41 but I've recently had a couple of conversations with some QPR fans 50-60s, who feel exactly the same way. One didn't renew their 20+ years season ticket last season just for this very reason, plus money of course

    It's not a GP/Flavio/changing managers thing.

They didn't feel like there were any true QPR players left anymore. I'm too young for Marsh and Morgan but even my generation there were players who were QPR through and through, they absolutely loved the club, could speak intelligible in interviews which helped - you felt more of an affinity with them. If they lost they were truly gutted, almost as gutted as us the fans.

I'm talking about the likes of Stan Bowles, Gerry Francis, Alan Mcdonald, Kevin Gallen, Even some of the foreign players like Steiner/ Stejskal, I can't imagine Tarrabt or Buzsacky doing the same. Its all about money to me now and no player has a real affilation with the club. Okay we have Rowlands, Cook and Ainsworth, but they are coming to the end of their careers.

We;ve not had a cult hero for years, even though now we are playing thousands per week in wages for the privilege of these players and that is reflected in the price of our season tickets. The biggest cheer on Saturday was for a couple of tackles, which showed some short lived determination. When I see players prance about like tarrabt who doubtless has great ability and see Ageymang who again possesses ability, not even jump to make an effort, it really annoys me.

it just feels like the older fans are somehow losing touch with the club.

just interested to know your opinions.

Will we honestly look back in 10 years time on this period and have memories of greatness, like Marsh, Francis, Bowles and Ferdinand??

its the same throughout football mate at the "higher level". Players come from all over the world now and have little knowledge of thier clubs fans/history/rivals.

Years ago a local derby would be played between local lads, most of who supported the club they played for.

Its defo different in the higher level of the game, but more like the good old days in the lower leagues

as a younger fan (aged 22) i feel exactly the same.. when i went with my old man and even ollie era it felt like the players playing for my team was playing not only for the fans and to win.. but for the club and u just dont see that from these.. maybe its fact we have so many loan rangers.. could be greedy footballers u just dont know..
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
        Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

football is not a sport anymore its purely buisiness......so players have become mercenary in their actions.......this alienates the older generation as in our era it was about playing for the shirt....now its about getting in big names and getting big contracts....if players don't get what they want they request transfers or see out contracts.....
loyal players are a rare breed now..........

            [It's not a GP/Flavio/changing managers thing.]

i think you may have your work cut out trying to convince people on this theory mate. and i also feel you are desperatley in the minority if you truely believe this. a lot of your post is quite true but i believe it is the culture the above people have created at our club!!

Because of the Bosman there is no loyalty from anyone in football except the fans. Players don't seem to stick around long enough to get any feeling for a club. I have been coming to Rangers for 42 years and the main difference lately for me is in the pubs, they all seem half full. The Crown and Sceptre used to be packed in both bars, so was the Conny, BQ and the Adelaide but now there is no atmosphere in them or the ground.
              RIP: Doug, Sniffer and Pat

My ol man has been a qpr fan since the sixtys. Season ticket holder s.a road for years. Gave up going for a while after gerry left the 1st time. Ollie got his passion back but is totally fed up with the current state of affairs. He feels that you need someone behind the club to show the passion and love he has given to his "beloved" rangers for so many years. He still encourges the kids in the family to be fans but i can see the love is slowly dying- a sad state!!

As a fan of more than 50 years, i can say its not the same. Maybe it just seems different as you get older. I still go home and away, but i cannot emagine anything topping the Marsh and Bowles years. But its a hard habbit to break.

were they legends because you were at a young age and in awe of the players.agree they were my legends, but the legends of the youngsters are about today.the older we become the more we think we know
