JEROME Thomas and Luke Moore are expected to return for Albion’s game against QPR on Monday, with James Morrison finally showing signs of progress in his long battle with a heel injury.
Thomas and Moore missed Tuesday night’s defeat to Cardiff due to injury but head coach Roberto Di Matteo hopes to have both fit for the visit of the troubled west Londoners.
Di Matteo also had good news regarding Youssouf Mulumbu, who suffered a knee injury and strained his ankle during Tuesday night’s game.
“Youssouf is fine – it was his knee and ankle, but he’s now okay,” said Di Matteo. “He had some treatment and trained today.
“Luke and Jerome will be training with us and hopefully they’ll be available for selection on Monday.
“On Tuesday night we didn’t have too many options or too many ways of changing the game.”
Morrison, meanwhile, has been sidelined for eight months after a blister on his heel went septic and failed to heal properly.
He also needed to have the infection pumped out of the wound and minor surgery, which prevented him from wearing any footwear, but Di Matteo has revealed his influential midfielder is finally showing signs of nearing a comeback.
“The scarring of his wound is progressing very well,” he added.
“Hopefully he’ll start doing some fitness work next week.
“He can get trainers on now to be able to run. He hasn’t been able to do anything since April.
“I think it has been very frustrating for him and for us. We’re looking forward to having him back.
“Let’s look at the bright side. Hopefully he can start back next week – that’s the closest we’ve ever been with him.
“Then we’ll have a better idea on a comeback date for him.”
Di Matteo confirmed that Scott Carson was likely to be fined following his sending-off on Tuesday.
Youth goalkeeper Ryan Allsop will be on the bench for Monday’s game as Albion are unable to recall Luke Daniels from his loan spell at Tranmere between transfer windows.
