Originally posted by qblockpete View PostBernies, do you seriously believe Jim Magilton head butted a player? Okay, we can argue all night about his style, but no doubt his attitude got to the players and I can imagine it being "who do you think you are, kinda attitude", which does validate your point, that he was not a big enough name, but all managers should get respect whoever they are.
Performances against Boro, Doncaster and Watford were not good enough and players cannot be exampt from those performances, in my opinion/
And I'm afraid you are deluded if you think a manager should get respect whatever they do. They need to EARN it, and they generally don't do that by physically abusing and threatening their players. You can only do that sort of thing once for shock value. He'd done it by half time of his second game in charge. He (allegedly) broke Marcus Stewart's jaw in an over the top reaction in training as a player at Ipswich, (allegedly) physically abused a number of Ipswich players as a manager, and there are stories that he'd pinned Taarabt up against a wall earlier in the season (possibly before the Donny game, when he was dropped). Now this. They can't all be baseless can they? And it isn't going to earn you respect from players.
He is totally unsuited to be a manager, because sooner or later players will say enough is enough. And none of what I've said above is (allegedly) a secret to anyone in the football fraternity, so why was he ever appointed?

But Pete has a point this time. I understand that the circumstances may be extreme, but this sets a terrible precedent. We all know our players are prima donnas and need the occasional dressing down. Now they can sulk about it, moan to GP and FB and oust another manager. We need a strong character in there to handle those egos, but what the players might want is a bit more power.
Really not a good period for the club!

Okay, I am trying to look at this objectively.
1. If Magilton didn't headbutt Buzsaky, then this is disgraceful. End of. You can't potentially ruin someone's life because you dislike or disrespect him due to his management style or personality.
2. If he did headbutt him, then there is no defence.
3. Regardless of the whole allegation, I think like most people that Jim has got to go. BUT this is a completely different issue to the accusation one. His management style is, it would seem, abrasive, not fitting for someone with so little track record, full of injustice (he seems to have obvious favourites), and actually quite stupid. How to lose friends and alienate people! I am not saying a manager should be friends with players, but they need to respect him. And I disagree with Pete on this, managers should not all be respected. They should be given an intial chance, that's only right, but if they continue to act poorly or mismanage, what is there to respect? That's in any walk of life, and not specifically about Jim. I am sure we've all had good managers, and ones we do not want to give our all for.
I hope the truth comes out, and the club act properly as a result of it, but I honestly can't see Jim being there any longer, rightly or wrongly.

It is significant that the four players who were named as having spoken to Flav about the squad's unhappiness with Magilton include a player who has been a virtual everpresent and a player who appears to have been a "favourite", as well as others who have been marginalised. It would suggest that this isn't about players "sulking", more players simply standing together as a group and saying, "this guy is simply not working as a manager, he is actually damaging our prospects and his behaviour is unacceptable to us". And I think they should be applauded for that, they could just as easily sulk, not put the effort into games, look for transfers or slum their way through their contracts.
We actually have a good enough group of players to put up with (in the short term anyhow) a bit of Flav's interference, but the real requirement will be to find someone who can gain the confidence & respect of both the players and the Board to take us forward. That will mean giving a new guy the same authority over transfers that Jim apparently had, I think the Board must understand that now.

And whilst that may be true in the short term, it is encouraging that at least Magilton seems to have been given a relatively free hand in getting on with the job.
