Louise Taylor: Paulo Sousa has made Swansea the Championship's most stylish side – but they need to find the net more often

People know my opinion about what happened re Sousa but what about those that supposedly know about football ....

    What a loss - what a f**king loss ....

Some very well made points in the article.

"We were much better than Newcastle in everything and we deserved to win by miles," said Sousa, once again exhibiting his hallmark modesty. "We were tactically and technically perfect." This, after a 1-1 draw ! I wonder if this was also the case 3 days later after the 1-1 draw with ......Plymouth.

Not quite, Paulo. The downside to a 4‑2‑3‑1 formation, which gives Swansea wonderful control of midfield, is that they tend to pass the opposition to death while failing to turn possession into goals. Sousa's side may be refreshingly comfortable on the ball – their centre-half Ashley Williams has a lovely delicacy of touch – but they have scored only 27 in their last 30 games and registered 14 in 17 home fixtures. Oh, maybe not the most entertaining of sides then perhaps.

At best Swansea's games can prove an aesthetic joy; at worst, watching Sousa's team turn football into tactical chess can be strangely reminiscent of a dull, woefully low tempo, Champions League group game. Dull and woefully low tempo? Surely not?

I fully understand that the guy had a great playing career. I do not doubt that he has very good technical knowledge of the game. Yes, he is doing very well indeed at Swansea.

But now please will you accept the one fact that really matters, or at least should matter to Rangers fans. He failed miserably at Rangers, no question about it. His negative style frequently led to games where we neither conceded or scored goals. He left us in no better a position in the table than when he joined. Under him, we played the most boring football I have seen from any Rangers team in the 39 years I have been going.

I have a lot of sympathy for the way he was removed, assuming it was a contrived situation as regarded by many. Personally, I would have just told him that his football was boring, thanked him for his efforts and wished him the very best of luck in the future.

But please, will those who cannot seem to leave it alone with their admiration for him and constantly bring up how well he is doing under another club not run by Briatore, just bear one thing in mind. As far as financial resources, playing budget and pre-season expectations are concerned, a certain Mr Holloway is doing by far the better of the two.

Not pete's fault that we never replaced him with anyone decent.

I just can't believe Dowie doesn't get the DESERVED sympathy????

      Yep.
In pure football terms, his was the most mental sacking of all.

I'm sure even those who aren't too keen on him wouldn't have actually sacked him for the results we had, and where we were sitting at the time.

The real start of our slide into footballing madness.

he got us to 7th, then failed miserably after that. Cannot re-write the history books. Its not what he done, but the perception that in some way, it was the first time a manager was doing in his own thing. Well, could say the same about Magilton who done better, but for some reason he doesn't divide opinion or get defended with the same amount of passion

Swansea have scored 28 goals all season and I suspect they won't even make the Play offs, when push comes to shove. Swansea re showing signs of wavering conceding two late goals in last two matches. yes, he is doing well now but as Brightonr has said Holloway and even De canio are doing far better.

Sousa did inherit a good side from Martinez and only really lost Jason Scotland at the start of the season.

        • regardless of his ability, I don't think anyone really had the patience for his 4-5-1 playing style, whatever they might be saying now. I have to say, it was absolutely boring, and they're still playing that way now. Cue the comments from the magpies recently about possession for possession's sake, but no real threat. Surely you should go a goal up if you're going to start playing defensively, not before.

            • Dowie should have never been fired.

The football under Sousa was so boring i spent more time taking the p out of linos and opposition players than i did watching it.

Remember that similar feeling against A Stanley, spent 20 minutes or so of the first half clocking their singing fans and that blonde bird!

Fair enough Pete, I'm not going to keep on going over old ground, these are your opinions and if thats what you genuinely believe then happy days.

One question though, do you believe Sousa deserved to lose his job for what he allegedly said?

Wrong - lost 3 of his best players at Swansea

Conceded in last minute v Newcastle yes - conceded in last minute to Plymouth to a retaken penalty -slightly unlucky.

Magilton and Sousa's records were almost identical Pete - stats on here a couple of weeks showed that.

Holloway always does well at a club first season usually (leicester excepted) but the motivational speaches wear off. De Canio - serie B - whoopy funking do...

I, despite your belief, do not think he is the messiah but I would like to see what he can do with some forwards- he never had them here (or the players to play in a system to accomodate them) nor at Swansea. You build from the back - that is what the bloke is doing and if he is given time then he could achieve something - that takes longer than 26 games no matter what club you are at.

We never had the players to mount a consistent challenge last season nor did we/do we have this season.

The real problem is his treatment by GP - the scourge of QPR - saved the club my ****ing ####.

                            • of course not

                              he didn't anyway

Myth created by a whole host of supporters.

Sensitive information of course posted on here, but it was just a piece of a bigger jigsaw.

Suits some (not saying you) to just single WATRB's out, probably because I couldn't stand his tactics beforehand and very forceful with those opinions

For the record, Magilton should not have got the sack either

                                Who sacked Magilton anyway? Briatore?
