  • PETE : Re January Poss transfers

A few weeks ago you were of the opinion that 'the wallet would be opened ' if we were thereabouts the playoff positions..THEN A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO... 'you were told that not much business would be done in January'... NOW THIS WEEKEND.... you state that our priorities are a defender , a midfielder & a striker !!
I am not having a pop as I value your opinion and I'm sure that the thoughts/actions of our owners will change as results develop .
I don't expect names of targets but do YOU feel that the players we may look to sign in Jan will demonstrate some kind of ambition by the owners to get the promised land or not . Obviously who ever we do get in needs the manager to get the best out of them !! TA

IMO they will buy players that we need, I don't however expect millions to be spent which I'm sure some people do but I expect a few solid purchases that will hopefully strengthen the squad and cement us in the play offs!

Personally i'd love the owners to splash the cash but realistically:

          Heaton (already agreed?)- 400k
          Hooper- 1.5 mil
          Best-500-750k (contract almost up)
          Bale- 2.5-3mil
Kilgallon-500k-1mil (out of contract in summer)
          Hard hitting cm-?

          Total: aroung 5/6 mil?

and it seems like jim has his heart set on signing watson so i can see him signing.

But looking at this thread :

doesnt look like pete is too optimistic on how much we will spend :very_sad:

sadly scrap killgallon and bale from that list - add williams in place of bale - sorry to say..

hard hitting CM hopefully somebody other than watson especially at his price.. id take watson on a loan till end of season but id still purchase another starting CM to make ben work for his place..

hooper would love and best is possible.

im sure pete said we're looking at bale, and JM says he wants passing center backs, kilgallon's contract is up in summer and he is refusing to signa a new one, so we may get him fairly cheap, might fit the bill. We need to sign quality of our own, not everybody elses, take out the loans and we look mid-table at best, so pete, not expecting names, hows bout a figure and positions? :greedy:

Apart from money (greed) obviously , what is going to make the likes of Hooper, Best and generally better than what we've already got , come to us when premier league clubs are sniffing about the type of players we should be looking at.
Surely we should be pilfering the best players from Watford and Palace and take advantage of their money problems. It was done to us enough time through the years!

the only player from those two clubs i'd have is moses, and he's prem bound already! we need to sign quality and the players listed above could give us a serious promotion push

I highly doubt we will spend 6 million!

                    Heaton seems very likely.
Watson either extend loan til end of the season or sign him I personally don't think it would be for 2 million probably a little less.
I t would probably be one striker so Best or Hooper but not both.
And then a central defender but not likely to spend more than a million.

As for Bale forget it we already have two left backs and I wouldn't want us to spend 3 million on him anyway!

                      Wes Morgan
                      Nicky Bailey
                      Simeon Jackson
                      Tom Heaton

I would be happy with any of those.
