Is Magilton right to publicly criticise his players

Matt Connolly being the latest target, who as a result has now come out publicly to try and explain his mistake in the Coventry game.

Personally I'm not in favour of manager's doing this because I think things can get messy and also I believe it can undermine a player's confidence and possibly even end up with a manager losing the dressing room. Moreover I think this latest episode smacked of JM attempting to deflect responsibility from himself over his team-selection and substitutions. In the cold light of the next day, I suspect he will have regretted it, particularly bearing in mind Connolly's very recent return from glandular fever.

I think that Matt needs nurturing back, especially at the moment. When you come back from injury, it is often the 2nd, 3rd and 4th games that are hardest. The first is adrenalin driven a lot of the time. Matt has had a bad illness and probably doesn't need this in public. He said "I know when I have made a mistake," and I think that is a polite way of saying that he doesn't need to be told it, especially in public.

Magilton would do himself some favours, I feel, if he told himself off in public occasionally. After all, his selections haven't been that consistent. I love how the team is playing, but he has a tendancy to mess about with selection and have clear favourites, selected with little relation to form. Gorkss should not have been dropped, and we all seem to agree with that except Magilton.

i think he should keep his mouth shut.....specially when everyone else states it was his tactics and selection that ####ed things up.
He just likes to pass the buck.

Connolly came in for some criticism from the boss for the first goal conceded in Saturday's disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Coventry.

"I know when I've made a mistake, but I will just try to improve and hopefully it won't happen again," he said. "We maybe stood too deep from the free kick and also let in another set piece and it was bad defending. I think we just need to organise ourselves more.

"We played unbelievably well on Saturday and should have won.

"Last season we had so many clean sheets but maybe we are more attacking now and a little more exposed. We know we've let in some rubbish goals."

players don't need a bad game to be dropped by JM......he has a habit of just changing the side.......look at when we were flying and goals going in.....then he changed it.....what is our latest run of results.

On that we're all agreed. But the question is: should he be singled out in public?

Psychologically, is that the best tactic, bearing in mind he needs to keep the players on side, as well as the fans?

Will be a joke if he drops Connolly on Sat who bar their first goal had a good game. Hall has made numerous mistakes over the season and has never been dropped?

If Magilton has this policy of dropping players if they make a mistake, then what about Cerny?
