  • What is it with Pete and Borrowdale?

I'd understand if Borrowdale was some young home grown fullback who makes flying runs down the line, defends like a demon and was being touted as a future England regular but he's not, he's an average run of the mill full back who was not wanted by any other team in our division before we snapped him up.
So come on Mr WATRB what is the secret behind your fascination with Gary Borrowdale.
    Explain.......

Don't like to see a player jeered or booed, when you know he is putting in 100%. Fair to say, many supporters are influenced by the decision of P Sousa to ship him out to Brighton and made assumptions he was not good enough.

He is MR Steady Eddie, nothing spectcular, simply plays his game. he won't win any plaudits for being similar to Roberto carlos, but it does what it says on the tin.. GARY BORROWDALE.

Not sure, Magilton made the right decision in loaning in Tommy Williams, after one gameat Doncaster I think I was justified. Look, if the club bring in Gareth Bale, I'd have no problem with putting Borrowdale on the bench. many fans feel the same way I do. I never set up a Borrowdale appreciation society, but someone did start it up. He has got unfair stick, a similar way to Ramage. I tend to be pretty loyal to players who I know are okay, but get singled out by fans for abuse on forums and at games.

Fair to say, whoever brought him to the club certainly wasn't influenced by the prior decision of C Coleman to ship him out of Coventry to Colchester. Which for most would be enough to make assumptions he wasn't good enough.

I remember a certain Matthew Connolly being shipped out to Colchester as well, from Arsenal

And how old was Connolly at the time? And what division were they in at the time? And how old was Borrowdale when he got farmed out? And what division were Colchester in at the time?

              Half hearted effort Pete, 2/10.

I guess you are in the anti-Borrowdale camp?/

Thats why you advocated Williams so much, well you should have been at DOncaster, soon would have changed your opinion.

As I said in a different thread, anyone who thinks he isn't doing well hasn't got a clue and I laugh in their general direction

So what's the news from non league football? Be nice to hear you talk about something you do have a clue about.

You know its baised, when I see someone said he made not one tackle.

Well, I can remember Borrowdale saving a certain goal on Saturday.

Simples really - Borrowdale was the clear example of Gianni having the call over Sousa in bringing a player to LR despite the ascertions that the manager could bring in who he wanted.
Sousa objected and made a stance by refusing to play Borrowdale and this made Pete's mate look poor in the eyes of many.

What Pete is still trying to do is prove a point that Gianni knows what he is doing and his signing was very worthwhile.

Personally, I have no problem with Borrowdale and think he is no better or worse than anyone else who has played left back; the problem I have is that the board decided to sign someone against the manager's wishes - just another example of the farcical situation Mr Paulo Sousa had to work under whilst at Loftus Road.

I wonder if THAT might have had something to do with his below par performance as QPR manager??? - Something that Pete can never admit too irrespective of where Swansea are in the table (and they have a MUCH worse squad than the one Paulo worked with at LR).

It pains me to agree with Pete but Borrowdale is a lot better than I expected.

Not the best left back we have ever had, but by no means the worst.

Assuming Connelly gets played where he should be, ie Centre Back, then for me Borrowdale is our best option for Left Back.

Agree he has hardly set the championship alight but I haven't seen him do much wrong either.

Just gets on with his job.

                          Good enough for me.

Davman, nothing to do with it. Faurlin was originally spotted by Gianni, so he does have an eye for a player (well sometimes)

In all seriousness, thats not the reason why I am defending Borrowdale. Like you, I have watched the games and put simply he has been Mr Consistent, I thought he played really well on Saturday and not for the first time was solid at the back. in reverse of your reasoning, I would say the very reason why he gets unwarranted stick is because of the way it was perceived he came to the club. You have to separate that and make a judgement and in all fairness cannot understand why he gets the stick.

I dunno - there is something of the triumph in adversity that I like about Borrowdale.

He endured a horrific first few months here and just kept going... waited and when got his chance took it. He never complained (this isnt speculation - fact) and even after being dropped for Donny came back on saturday solidly.

Defenders get noted more for mistakes than the stuff they do correct (Cerny's recent ones getting more notice than a couple of wonder saves, Connolly's mistake saturday drawing more criticism than his goal saving clearance gets praise) - so it strikes me as odd that GB gets such criticism... cos he hasnt done anything wrong! His last ditch tackle on saturday was sensational!

His name has been tarred by politics but that's not his fault - and to his credit he rose above all that. I actually admire the guy and feel comfortable with him at LB.
