  • Just Back on the Island...

Not going to write up a full match report on yesterday's game, but there were just a couple of things that I wanted to mention.

Firstly (albeit frustrating) what a stunning performance from us yesterday. Following on from the shambles at Doncaster last week, it was clear as daylight that those players really tried to put it right.

How on earth Coventry came away with a point I don't know. But if we play like that every week (I wish), then that purple patch of hitting 4 goals a game consistently won't be far round the corner. The amount of chances that we created was beyond belief, and it wouldn't have been harsh on Coventry had we hit 6 or 7 goals yesterday... coming forward we were just mouthwatering.

Also on the point of player performances, what an absolutely marvelous game from Faurlin. I was extremely critical of Magilton for bizarrely substituting him last week, and he more than rewarded Magilton for starting him yesterday... The best player on the pitch bar none... absolutely exceptional! He just HAS to start against Middlesborough next week.

I could sit here raving all day about the midfield and attack, but I just wanted to focus on the defence and particularly goalkeeper. I think Hall (when fit) has been one of our better players this season, but why did Magilton drop Gorkss? I thought that was extremely harsh on him, as he is a far better player than Hall - big mistake in my eyes.

Either way, one person who I do firmly point that finger at is Radek Cerny. This opinion isn't based on a snap reaction to conceding two goals yesterday, I have been saying for week's that he isn't in good form. Admittedly he did make one superb save in the first half, but his general play was so shaky. I noticed on the highlights Connolly was extremely disappointed with the second goal - and it appeared that his frustration was being vented towards Cerny as opposed to any defenders.

Also for the first goal, although Connolly did lose out to Best in the air... It should have been a fairly routine save for a goalkeeper, but to let it loop into the back of the net from there just isn't good enough.

I said last week he would start costing us points soon - and in my eyes he certainly cost us 2 point's yesterday.

I also noticed at the full time whistle some 'fan' shouting abuse towards the touchline. Gorman stormed over, and was eventually dragged away by Routledge. Now personally no matter how bad things were, I wouldn't lower myself to furiously insulting any player/management. However, if one of these supposed 'fans' had a similar attitude after a performance like our one last week, although I would strongly disagree that it's the right thing to do... you could understand his frustration. But after playing as brilliantly as we did yesterday? Absolutely no chance!

I despair with some supporters at Loftus Road nowadays... what a disgrace. Fortunately he was in the extreme minority, and on the whole I thought the crowd played a big part yesterday.

Well done everyone, let's hope for more of the same next week.

    U R'ss!

Though I agree with to a degree on Cerny, he did make one outstanding save in the first half. He does not control his box on corners and free kicks, which is a concern.

I thought that was an outstanding save Pete. I don't think many goalkeepers would have saved that.

But like you said, from set pieces Cerny has been abysmal... and teams will pick up on that weakness. Sheffield United will have a field day if he plays like that again.

I'll just clarify - I'm not laying into Cerny's ability... we all know what a top goalkeeper he is. But he is in dreadful form at the moment.

which is food & drink for any top class keeper, i think he's been getting away with it because our defence was excellent last season whereas this season it's all over the place and he's being shown up, can't fault his shot stopping tho

personally can't see whats wrong with

        Legs Gorkks Stewart Connolly

        that's our best back four
