having 20+ chances should result in more goals - i dont agree we "need a new recognised striker" as simpson has shown he can be clinical.

however i feel at home 4-4-2 would allow us to possibly have a better chance at converting said chances.

something is still missing from making us that "playoff cert" team..

could be leadership - nobody organising in our team.. we could do with more players in january even if we have 4/5 in that position.. i mean i remember big dan doing alot of shouting and hollaring when at rangers last organising players - could be what we need? i do feel january is a time for a slight change.. take out some regular faces and bring in new ones.. likes of stewart and maybe hall out with 2 new faces coming - potentially 2 new "leaders" for our side.

i also aint 100% on buying watson this jan.. maybe when jan comes totally change transfer targets? send reid and watson back and get in two experienced CM's who have leadership?

oh and a striker to change it up when plan A doesnt work.

Tarrabt was brilliant on sat and although I question him at times he really should be the 1st player on the team sheet. I really would like to see Buzz play just behind simpson. He really doesn't look good on the wing and doesn't have the pace to be effective in that position. Also when tracking back his tackling makes Scholes look world class.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

id like to see 4-4-2 at home drop buz and play somebody alongside simpson.. even tho our two alternatives are pellicori and agyemang.

and for that reason we can't play it.
I would still Play vine up top with him when he is fit.

It's a shame you can't just blow teams away with attacking football, but reality bites sometimes... and it did on saturday.
              Also against Palace.

I suppose the best example is our full backs this season, compared to last season.
I honestly think that Delaney and Ramage were better defenders than Leigertwood and Borrowdale. Taller, stronger, and better for defending set-pieces.
But they're not better players, and would take away from our current attacking play.

The way we play this season is more "high risk".
We give the ball away, and we're in trouble. Wide open at times.
We keep the ball, and the other team are in big trouble. I see plenty more 2-2 draws coming this season. A good bet at 16/1 every week.

I just think we need to tighten up a bit, and if it means playing a strong centre forward to hold the ball up, offer more physical presence in both boxes to help out Simpson up front, and the defence at set-pieces... and a stronger, taller full back who might not have the passing ability of Legs of Borrowdale, but would compete better when we're under the cosh... then we might have to consider it.

Not a dig at individuals, it's a system and style that just needs tweaking, to avoid everyone banging their heads against brick walls when we don't get what we deserved - like on saturday - and against Palace, Plymouth etc..

We are 9pts from second place and 3pts from 12th place. I wonder if people will be as forgiven if results dont work in our favour and we find our selves in 12th or 13th over the coming weeks when we play Middlesborough, Watford and West Brom.

                  Brilliant football blah blah blah.

Three wins now from NINE home games. Only three clean sheets from 18 games. All six combinations at centre back have played in the league this season. And they will continue to rotate for as long as Sicknote gets selected.

If you don't concede goals, you don't lose, and you don't have to work quite so hard to win. We had the best CB pairing in the league in Gorkss and Stewart last year, but our management team can't leave it alone.

In all my years of watching Rangers, we've never been so good we can afford to ship goals as sloppy or as easily as we have done this season. It will cost us if it isn't sorted out.

Bit of a rock and a hard place this one.

Last couple of season we have been very tight at the back, but lacked scoring goals.

This season - our attacking football has been noted and well documented by other teams and the media. We have been dropping points over last few weeks and that is a concern. But depsite that - we are sitting 5 th in the table.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to recognise that we need to tighten up in defence. However - with the attacking team that we have at moment - i feel we need to get better defenders in.

Tottenham have the same problem at moment - going forward they look like they can murder most teams but their achilles heel is at the back.

Can teams play attacking football and still be tight at the back? I belive so - i just think that Jim and John need to look at this( and im sure theyvare) and once they get both area's sorted out -we will be a team to be reckoned with.

However - 5th at moment playing stylish football - depsite defensie leaks - will do me for time being. But i hope in long run we are looking to incorporate both.

I will say again that you can only leave a centre back pairing alone (or any other for that matter) if the players remain fit and available for selection!

So no reason for Gorkss not to have played on Saturday then.

Magilton doesn't need to messing about with team selection to make us all think team management is harder than it really is.

                        Good squad - check
Train them to do their jobs properly - check
Discount those who ain't fit - check
Pick the best XI from the rest - check
                        Collect three points - check

At the moment, Magilton is getting two (at the most) of those right.

The whole point of this season is PROMOTION. That's it. Doesn't matter if the football is good or bad, attacking or defensive. There's only two outcomes here, promotion equals success, no promotion equals failure. Near misses won't count for anything.

                          Set Pieces.

If you can't sort that out at either end you will struggle long term. Sometimes its not about systems, its just about having dominate figures in the air. Stewart and Gorkks = strong in the air; Hall and Connolly - classy with the ball on the floor, OK at best in the air. Cerny - well, I think most of you know that I think he has the same fear of crosses as Dracula.
Put all that together and hey presto, we will struggle to clear our lines when crosses come in.

At the other end, apart from Gorkks and Stewart, who have had goal scoring records until this season to indicate that they do score set piece headers, who do you fancy to get their head on a cross?

Until that is sorted, what's the point of winning corners???

Still, we're 5th, so everything is rosy, rosy, rosy, isn't it?
Judging by the way this season is going, whoever gets into the Play-offs will be a lottery just as much as the Play-offs themselves. We might get there, OR we might finish 12th...

Its not scoring thats the problem, its conceding them.

even when you score 2 at home, you should be winning

For once I agree with QBP ...score 2 goals at home and you should collect all 3 points ....we are conceding far too many goals!

Yes, but I honestly think that if we had a Leon Best type player in our team - we'd score more AND conceed less.

Because the ball wouldn't keep coming back at us from every long clearance, and put us on the back foot away from home so much.
And we'd have some height and muscle in our own area to help defend set-pieces.

But that would mean one of Taarabt, Faurlin, Watson or Buzsaky being a sub occasionally.
                              Not easy to choose.
