Jim Magilton's decision making?...cost us 2 points

I can't deny the fact that Jim Magilton has got us playing some beautiful football (or is it John Gorman? Who cares?). But even whilst he was manager at Ipswich his decision making came under alot of scrutiny at times and all I can say about todays decisions against Coventry was that they were woeful.

1, Leaving Gorkks on the bench and playin Fitz Hall

2, Taking, no doubt, the best player on the pitch off

In not starting, arguably one of the best center halfs in the league and leaving him on the bench, was terrible! Fitz Hall is nothing more than and injury prone central defender that is 6ft4 and can't win anything in the air.A center halfs main attributes are heading and tackling where Hall is just not up to standards set in the CCC for a team that is chasing promotion.

IMO Taarabt showed us that he is not just prem class but he is destined to be a world class player. His touches and visions were unbelievable in the second half so why does he rarely play a full game for us? Why can't Jim Magilton see that he is the best player we have had in a long time. Would Alex Ferguson take off Rooney at 2-1 up with him controlling the game?... I think not.
From where I was sitting at the back of s.africa road, I am almost sure I heard the sighs of relief coming from the coventry players as he was subbed from the pitch. Or was that the groans of disbelief in seeing our best player get taken off.



I hope Jim is man enough to realise and admitt that his 2 decisions today cost us 2 points we will never get back. I'm sorry Jim, but today you got very wrong.

But we move on from this game in the highest position we have been in a long time and Jim (i hope to god) willl learn from his mistakes.

Agree with ALMOST every word.

He didn't take "the best player on the pitch" off.
Faurlin stayed on.

But Taarabt was superb, and should have stayed on. Maybe he was knackered, or took a knock?

We have conceded quite a few goals from headers,....worrying.

Not dissimilar to my earlier comments on another board.

This was, for me, one of the most disappointing results of the season. We played all the pretty football which was a delight to watch, probably had 65 to 70 % possession , but still failed to win, WHY ? In my opinion ,we made it difficult for ourselves, for the following reasons:

1.) Why Drop our best centre back, Gorkiss.

2.) Our inability to defend set pieces is largely due to these constant changes. Our centre backs today totally failed to win the aerial battle, so Leon Best enjoyed himself.

3.) Our set pieces were abysmal by comparison. Our corners rarely got beyond the first defender, and the set piece shots on goal were never on target,

4.) The sight of our very talented midfield players "shooting on sight" should never be criticised . However, today they were all at it , anywhere from 45 yards out, regrettably, their keeper was only troubled a couple of times. If these lads ever get to lower their sights a little, we could be seeing cricket scores soon.

5.) It was patently obvious to most of us that we had Coventry on the rack when attacking, but not looking too good at dealing with their break aways. We finally take a deserved lead, which, had we kept attacking, could easily have become five or six.

Our management team in their wisdom, then decide to defend what we had fought so magnificently to get by taking off Taarabt ( who had been terrorising their back four ) and bringing on a defensive midfielder in Reid. Result, we immediately took on a defensive look, and paid dearly soon after.

That's the end of my rant, I actually feel better now, and on reflection, it was a great game to watch, albeit, very frustrating not to have three points. But well worth the money to come to LR and see the likes of Faurlin, Routledge,Taarabt,Watson etc.

You never take off your most skillful and attacking player when game is still precariously balanced at 2-1 up, and with 15 mins still to play. That decision was a critical one, it turned the game, and is what cost us 2 points.

Sorry Jim but you've got absolutely nobody to blame but yourself, and losing your rag with the players to deflect attention from YOURSELF, does not wash.

yet cov were putting em in....2 were blatant to stop us attacking as good a professional foul as any, but yellows....

Not disagreeing, but subbing Tarabbt didnt cost us the game, poor defending of centre backs did!!!
