  • Leon Best did not celebrate so are we to sign him? /merged/

    Current state of play

WITH Coventry City in the process of offering Leon Best an improved contract, it's time for the Sky Blues to give him a deadline.

Along with the offer, the Republic of Ireland striker should be told: "Sign by Christmas or we will look to move you on in the January transfer window."

If Leon wishes not to sign that is his prerogative but he should have the decency to accept a move away in the transfer window, in the same way Jay Tabb did, and earn City a transfer fee in the process.

In the two and a half seasons he has been here, Best has had one good season in total.

Starting with the second half of last season and the season to date, Best has found his confidence and shooting boots.

If you look at the statistics, 17 goals in 80 games is not a great return.

Eight in 15 starts this season is why other clubs are sniffing around.

obviously playing for a improved contract, done naff all in nearly 2 & half years, then all of a sudden he's banging them in left right & centre!

now, who do we know like that!!! Aggy comes to mind if you ask me & he bagged a 4 & a half year contract  nah i'd rather have a proven goalscorer thanks

      Simpson needs some support, badly.

Best seems to have found form this season, but up until then....??
I suppose because of his contract running out, he wouldn't cost the Earth.

Why would he be a good investment when we are pushing for the play-off's and hopefully the premier League ? Maybe he would be an option if we were in league one, looking to get into the Championship.

If he is not good enough for the premier league, why sign him as he will be a drain on resources.

                Beckford! 101%

But i think best could be a good investment, he's only young, is hitting some form and could be good for the promotion charge

The only reason Best is an option is he is free and Beckford is not an option because he will cost money.

And where was Simpson ever prolific? Strikers can find their scoring boots later in their career. Both Simpson and Best have done so this season.

Because we shop in the charity shops, that is why we will never really challenge the top 2.

Another is Matty Fryatt. Shocking strike rate at this level when Leicester were relegated. Blinding season in League One last year and showing great form this year. Luis Sahar took time to become clinical and is now an establised Prem player. Do we ever give players a chance before saying they're not good enough?

                            Agreed :boss:
                            Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
                            And many more mistakes

So his record is not to dissimilar to Agyemang apart from one purple patch.

Has Best found form which he can sustain or will he turn out to be like Pat?
