  • Shorey to Forrest....

.....For those concerned about the left back position ( I personally thought Borrowdale was growing in confidence and doing OK) Nicky Shorey looks like joining Forrest from Villa on loan.He cost £3m from Reading and has 2 England caps.It goes to show that there are quality loanees out there AVAILABLE NOW without waiting til January as Pete keeps saying. Its like Best - if we wanted someone like him bad enough, and we tried harder to get them,he could be playing for us on Saturday and not Coventry - and yes there would be room for him if we dropped one of our 37 midfielders. It just goes to show me,at least, that the club feel there is no urgency for a striker,or indeed promotion this season, which would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying and frustrating given the pledges made two and a half years ago and the astonomical increase in prices.

Signing Shorey would be a bit like signing Watson or Reid. None of them were/are match fit when they joined. All of them have played little or no football for their actual clubs and all of them have the potential to be better than we have got. But all of them have the potential to ditch us and return to their clubs the moment they find their form.

I'm all for signing loan players and trialling them with us but we always have to be aware of what could happen if they find form. Arsenal could sell Simpson but not to us now he has found formed. Taraabt could be sold by Spurs but again not to us because of the form he is showing. Loanees could potentially send us to the Premiership but at the same time leave us with a giant hole if they are recalled or are sold by their club.
