  • Why Do Managers Always Rely On So Called Names?

We are not the only ones, but if you look throughout the season.

Hall got the nod over Connolly until he got injured

    Williams gets nod over Borrowdale

Faurlin getting subbed, when it should have been Reid.

Watson replacing Mahon, after his suspension despite at the time, us winning games.

could go on, but I'm one for sticking with a winning team and present and past managers seem to make the same mistakes?

Reid actually sounded ok on the comms..was he that bad yesterday?

"Names" are names fro a reason - generally as they've been there seen it done it. They probably act better in training as they know how to and thus..get picked.

must admit i was heavily surprised to see reid start..i thought he would be on the bench.

Pete, I dissagree with the Reid/Faurlin debate. Although I wasn't there, we only have to look at Leicester a few weeks back to realise how fragile we are without a hard tackler.

It's not an easy decission to make mate, so I'm not going to heap blame on Jim.

I'm not blaming Reid, its just we subbed Faurlin, when he was our best midfielder. Reid was totally out on his feet after about 70 minutes and should not have played the 90.

I rate Stephen Reid, but because he comes from the premiership and Faurlin is the sort of player made an easy scapegoat to take off, it makes it an easy decision. Reid, may not have taken kindly to being subbed, who knows?? I do know, that on this performance he is not 90 minute fit, just yet.

Because the "names" are "names" for a reason!

I'm afraid he was, Scott. Really, really disappointing.

So are some of the posters who questionned the sense of loaning a player who isnt fit correct after all?

It might be right to loan him.

It might have been right to play him.

It wasn't right to keep him on after half time and take off Faurlin.

Couldn't agree more with Pete. Reputation is in the past and Watson and co have had too much favouritism against our better performers this season. Makes you think what signals are being made to Mahon and Tarabbt when Watson and Reid walk in ahead of them when they could do no more. Come to think of it... with Mahon and Tarrabt both out the team have we won this season?? When Watson's been on the pitch we've hardly been dominating.

One of the reason why managers play and stick with so called names, is job security. There fell safer as the player as been there and done it, knows whats needed to turn it around and they feel that that person is more likey to follow his instructions than someone not so well known.

With this industry being so results driven, with us fans being so fickle they edge thier bets. Managers like old red faced Fergie, #### Wagner, Martin O'nelly and holapa at liverpool who feel secure dont just play names and the reason for this is there is a small chance they will get sacked.

The fans have not help either cause, how many people have said Borrowdale was not good enough, with Mahon and Rowland out we need more cover. People say we need a striker yet we are the third highest in this league, say we go out and get "Midiget Earnshaw" well what do we do then. If you play him and we lose "why did he play", you dont play him and people say "why buy him" as aresult, if you feel your jobs on the line you take the safe road.

The manager has to show some back-bone and not be intimidated by a players reputation. Faurlin should never have been substituted, Buz was the one I thought would go first. Reid and Watson are the same type of player, and one of them should have gone as well. Watson we have seen for a while now and he has not impressed at all. He lacks movement, mentally he seems slow and does not get forward to assist the front man. When Watson and Rowlands were suspended I thought how will we cope, I need not have worried, Mahon and Faurlin stepped up to the plate.
