  • are loans the answer??

it's great we are top 4
    playing good exciting football
    scoring
and it's a relief to see us playing the "qpr way"

with us relying on loans, i wonder long term if this is a good thing and if our yth set up is adequte?
do we now need to re-invest and establish the fa academy, thereby attracting the best yth players we can and retain them??

v donny we could see half the team as loans
simmo adel watson reid williams and i assume rhys thomas? from chelski

loans are a good idea, just has me wondering...an arguement could be we get a look see if considering a purchase.

Of course it's good. We don't like, we don't buy. We like, we do.

    No lose sittuation.

I think loans are a very good way to go...

Alot of people will say whats the point in buying them becuase people will consider them not good enough for the prem, those people might be right? in which case say we sign a player on a 4 year contract then we get in the prem and they arnt good enough then were stuck with a load of deadwood again....

Loans are a short term and easy way to not blow the budget but get promoted at the same time (should we go up that is)....
Cant believe it, ive been PWOPER MUGGED ORF...

Stoke benefited from it a few seasons back and got themselves promoted, so I think YES the loan system we are using is a good idea

Exactly GT, they even get the point in Essex - its loans or nowt.

I only wish we'd Agypants, Pelicori, Helguson and a few more on loan... :horror::horror::horror:

I would love us to invest in youth and start up an academy and play at a higher level of reserve football but all of these things take time and money. Even if they were done today you probably wouldn't reap the rewards for 5 years at least.

We are owned by billionnaires who was success much quicker and much cheaper than this and with more guarantees. An academy would cost a lot and it may or may not bring reward. Loanees can come in and if they are successful be purchased (i.e. Buzsaky) or returned if they fail (i.e. Sahar).

With any luck the likes of Williams and Reid will be successful and we purchase them. If not they return and we try again. For me this is a win-win situation.

In a virtuous world yes it would be lovely to have an academy, but as Sir Pie says everything is v short term now. With the premiership buying so many players from abroad a club like Rangers is v well placed to pick up some of their young British talent which doesn't quite cut it at the highest level. It might be cynical but Id rather have Matthew Connolly from Arsenal than a Marcus Bean from our youth set up.

Agreed. I think in an ideal world we would be able to produce a Matthew Connolly through our own academy but that would take years and these rich businessmen don't want to wait that long.

Agreed! To put it into perspective Roy Keane has spent around £8 million so far at Ipswich and we have spent around £1 million on Faurlin and recouped not far off £2million on Blackstock, Delaney & Camp.

They should have invested heavily from the onset we'd be 2 years into a 5 year plan now.

Only downside is that while you test the players and see if you like them, the rest of the world are doing the same. You may need to pay more to get the player. Upside is the player may like it here so it gives us the edge on the other side. Though Routledge was snatched from Cardiff by us...
