  • How Do You make Positive/negative Judgements On Players??

    That come to QPR??

I've noticed some saying how good Tommy Williams is, yet they don't watch Peterborough United week in week out.

Ben Watson is quality, because he came from Palace and of course our supporters watch Wigan and Palace regularly?

Now, Leon Best perfromance for 10 minutes versus France, makes him a not so good proposition.

simpson would never score goals, because he never did when on loan to WBA and Millwall

How much are you influenced by how little you watch, of other players or read in newspapers?

Pete, you can hardly talk. You dismiss and big up players you've rarely seen on a regular basis. It's what happens. You can't watch every player all the time, but you can base an OPINION on players even if you only get to see them twice a season.

You almost ask this on a weekly basis, just in different words.

Did you not think Watson would be good?

Did you not tell me over the phone you thought Williams would be a good signing?

You were one that said Borrowdale wouldn't be any good and are now saying he's done no wrong. Don't worry Pete...I said exactly the same.

People form opinions on what they know and hear. I'll always have a thought on a player, and whether or not it's a good opinion, I'll always back them.
    Your mum would love me...

I think all of us get influenced by the media and the majority opinion.Unless you watch a player every game you can only judge them when you actually see them and by newspaper reports and hearsay.

Well, we all have favourites (and those we are not so keen on). You tend to overlook the misplaced passes off your favourites and groan about them from players you aren't so keen on. My faves are Buz, Watson and Legs, will forgive them most things (other than signing for Palace...)

Pete, I think the this thread originated from the Best thread. I'm not sure why it got you so (and a few others) so irrated. I didn't see the ireland game so can't comment on it, I've seen Best I'd say around 10 times and haven't been impressed. However, all the "Best" thread was saying was that they'd watch the ireland game and weren't impressd with him. What's wrong with that? He doesn't play for qpr and people are expressing opinions. If he signs, we'll all give him our full support.

Its unlikely to be a very accurate assessment if you've only seen them twice that season though, is it Benny.

Personally I dont comment too much on players unless I've watched them regularly. For me, this is the problem with most MB's - people being too quick to judge a player without the opinion being a truly INFORMED one, when 9 times out of 10 it would be wiser to stay schtum and reserve judgment.

That's true Stanley, but how "informed" are some of the people making decisions? This is not a dig at Gianni, because he has bought some fantastic players, but what, for instance, wd have led him to think Pelicori was a good player? Even Man Utd, it transpired, had only seen Deigo Forlan on video before buying him. Think football is less scientific than we fans wd like to imagine. Gianni for instance was clearly obsessed about getting Watson, an obsession I shared - I still think he will prove to be brilliant for us BTW, but there is a lot of subjectivity in it all.

Stain, its a good example about Forlan, an exellent player who indeed went on to further success in La Liga following his Man Utd spell. Yes he may well have been signed just on the strength of seeing him on video, but how many videos were viewed? And you can argue that much can be learnt about a player from video alone. I'm with you on Watson. Again I think he's another case in point of supporters being WAY too quick to negatively judge a player. I made the same point on the "part ex vine" thread.

We could single out Pellicori, who has NOt set the world alight, but in recent times the loans and buys have more thasn made up for one potential mistake.

Pete I made that point, wasn't having a go at Gianni - guarantee if I was in charge of buying the players within a certain budget I wd end up buying the odd lemon - probably a lot more than Gianni has. He has done some great deals (eg Gorks) who wasnt on my radar at all. All I'm saying is we all see different things in players, he obviously saw things in Pelicori that I haven't seen, but equally he saw Simpson as a clinical goal scorer and I didn't.

To be honest, people who DO see players week in, week out, have differing opinions on the same player (see Blackstock, D.)
