A few facts & figures to go with the opinions

According to S****horpe's website he has scored 5 goals in 10 starts so far this season, sound's good.

As we all know he did very well last year in the 3rd Division, 28 goals in 51 appearances.

But, he hasn't scored a goal in open play since playing against PNE in mid Sept, his only goal since then was a penalty against Plymouth on 3rd October.

He has the missed the last few games with a foot injury.

He's got a good disciplinary record as he hasn't been booked yet this season.

He's so far played in his short career for Grays, Southend (twice), Orient, Hereford & S****horpe.

Personally, very undecided, if he's cheap, then why not.
I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

If wellbeck was available - id say take him!

I say yes - more importantly though I say yes to Simpson.
And it's only a yes to Hooper if he is being viewed as a long term prospect - which means we need someone else as well with a decent pedigree. So running out of contract means he shouldn't cost a fortune and could prove a long term asset so long as the other signing comes straight in and fits in well with the system and scores the goals that get us up.

But what would he prefer, playing regularly for S****horpe, or sitting on our bench albeit with probably a higher wage.

Not that I'm obsessed with players who are "proven at this level", but he isn't.
10 career games in this division, and a few penalties to bump up his goal stats doesn't make him proven to me.
You generally get what you pay for, and he's very much a "Time will tell" player.

There are a few I'd go for ahead of him, but he looks a decent player.

Did he not play for Scunny the season before last at this level? To be honest I thought he did but am more than happy to be corrected

                No.
Signed for Scunny in July 2008, from Southend. (2 goals in 32 games for them)

Can't knock his record since then, but still very new to this league.
Not knocking him, but seems to be labelled as "proven at this level". He's not.

But he's only 21, so he's certainly a possible for the future.

Pete you quote hoopers not good enough.....

But pellicori, helguson, agyemang and balanta are?? Hes a better option with a far better scoring record then all them put together possibly. Only 21 as well.

But he doesn't have a better scoring record than Agyemang or Helgusson.

And he's not good enough. Prospect to warm the bench. Nothing else

Just my opinion. I saw Hooper and McLean play in the same team together at Grays 2 or 3 years ago after Hooper was released by Southend and seen enough of Hooper since his return to the league to see that he is essentially a limited player with an average technique and goalscoring record. McLean on the other hand offered more strength, power and directness that have served him well as he's moved up through the leagues and you can see he has more in his locker whereas, in my opinion, Hooper can't give too much more.

If I had a little bit of spare transfer style cash I'd look at a player like McLean or Barnard at Southend. Hooper, possibly, but not a 1st team regular if we're looking to progress and keep in the play off/auto hunt. I'd prefer a CCC, L1 striker who has a number of 1st team games under the belt rather than another Loan Prem player like Wellbeck, Macheda or Vela. We need a striker and midfielder with a bit of experience, a level of purpose and, very important this, leadership skills, to take us through what is going to be an exceptionally important 6 month period, even on a short term basis. Quashie or, unlikely though it is, Davids, would be superb for us in that role, in the same way we got the best out of the likes of McLintock, Reid and Wilkins at the same ages. I'd keep Agyemang - Helgusson can go (his heart's at Vicarage Road) and Pellicori just isn't good enough.

In reality, me and Pete met down at the crossroads, got down on our knees and formed a pact with GP to only promote club policy. Gianni hid his pointed tail, forked tongue and filed down his horns for the occassion.
