Add the gates for all 4 leagues on saturday and then take away from population of UK.Same for every club.In my pub alone...maybe 30 football fans..only about 3 go to "live" matches..Reading between lines...if more fans actually went to games then maybe some of the clubs would not be in the financial state they are in.

Are football crowds up or down at moment in this current climate?

Many football fans between age of 18-about 36 play football on saturday aftrenoon so do not actually go to many "live" games.I know that i played on saturday afternoons and didnt really attend a lot of QPR games untill i stopped playing 6-7 years ago.Was still a true fan, but enjoyed playing the game more than watching. Now i am tooo old to play i enjoy watching rather than playing.

All the above has bogger all to do with the question - apart from the fact that i think Pete is driving at the fact that there are many fair weather fans out there....

Spencer, thats not my angle. Thought it was an interesting question to see a rough estimate.

Its hard to put a figure on it, but it is common that if we make a big final, then mates who support other clubs, then want to go. I'm not old enough to know about the League Cup Final, but I was told pretty much we had 80=90,000 of that crowd against WBA.

We have 14,000 that go now, but I'm guessing 2-3,000 are different at varying games.

Often you get into a cab or go to a big function like a wedding, you get talking and it ends up they support QPR, but don't go. Many fans loved going in the seventies and eighties, but now have families and it takes a backburner. Plus the price is offputting. I find that alot with Arsenal and Spurs fans, so many now don;'t go.

Hard to put a total figure on the support base. I would imagine the club should have a database of around 30-35,000 from last few years.

Saafend and Dagenham are like that though.

I went to a pre-season game at Daggers a few years back, and almost all of the fans I spoke to are ex-West Ham who've given up on them, because of massive ticket prices, foreign invasion, and a rejection of the whole "Premiership Circus" thing.

They just pine for Bobby Moore, Trevor Brooking, some eels and pwopper football etc...

Not so many, but quite a few like that at Southend too.

            And Barnet, MK Dons etc...

Apologies Pete - but i often think about the amount of fans that do not go to matches - untill their club is in either semi final of final of a competition or flying really high etc...This is coming from a fan/supporter like me - that only goes to about 8-10 matches a season.

I feel for the smaller clubs that go out of business for "in football terms" a smallish amount of money.I feel that(stating the obvious)the rich are getting richer and the poor get fudged.

I also hate standing in my local - getting stick from so called "fans" of the big clubs - but yet have not seen them play coz its too far to travel to manchester or Liverpool...I know I shouldn't but i do.
