I believe the 98000 crowd against Oxford had 63000 'QPR' fans
'Fans' 250000 (everyone who claims some sort of affinity to QPR)
Which is comprised of
Supporters 50000
of which
Loyal Support (will watch us play a few times a season) 30000
Which includes
Hardcore 13000Last edited by W12_Ranger; 11-11-2009, 10:42 AM.

Another example of Rangers fans thinking the club is bigger than it is.
Don't put any weight in the big game crowds - as others has said, there is no way the crowds that come with us are 'pure' QPR. During the Play-off Final, which I went with a Pompey fan and a Palace fan, we found out that there were at least six Chelsea around us and two West Ham; this out of probably ten - I reckon we took about 25,000.
It was similar in '82 and '86 as far as I can remember.
Assume that all QPR 'fans' did what they could to get there (a pretty good definition), then there's probably only about 5-10,000 to add on to that.
Anything higher than 50k just seems totally implausible to me.
Face it, we were in the top flight during the eighties and the start of the nineties for a sustained period, but that is really the only time we achieved that. In the scheme of things, we are probably where our current crowds say we are; in the lower echelons of the second tier.

There were 7 of us that travelled together and in reality I'd only say three if us were "proper" r's. My step mum doesnt really count, neither did my brothers mrs' and indeed although my brother went from when he was about 6 he stopped going regularly when he was about 17/18 and he's probably only done a game a year in the last decade.

I call a fan someone who has an affinity to the club and purely based on that definition I'd say there was 1/4 of a million.
To put this further into perspective I'd say a team like West Ham has 'fan base' claiming some sort of affinity to them of around 1.5-2 million in the UK which to me still demonstrates our small club status.....I guess its how you interpret the question.
A fan who claims some sort of affinity to a club more often than not supports Man Utd, Liverpool etc of well.....but they also have local pride.Last edited by W12_Ranger; 11-11-2009, 09:46 AM.

I started a thread a few days ago posing the question: Should the national census have a section, What football club do you support ?
If it did it would go a long way to answering these quieries.
I believe that it would cost about £1 Million to add a question to the national census. The Football authorities would be able to make great use of the information and easily pay for itself.
I personally think that it's a culturally important question given the level of interest in football in this country.
However I suspect that it's too late to have a question added for the 2011 census.
