Can Someone Please Tell Me What Borrowdale Has Done Wrong?
To get away from the silly stuff for a second, and answer the original question.... he was poor against Forest (who openly targeted him), Posh, Palace (their penalty came from him losing yet another header - watch it), Leicester, first half v Derby against Lee Croft, both goals at Swansea came from crosses from his side that he was nowhere near to closing down, and more.
We'd had 3 goals from right backs this season, none from him, he doesn't get past his man on the overlap - because he has no pace. He loses the vast majority of aerial challenges, and I can HEAR him passing responsibilty to his midfielders (and Gorkks) when he is being attacked, and he hides in no-mans land.
He turns his back on crosses, and headed challenges... and is a very flimsy defender. I sit about 6 rows from the front of R Block, and have seen and heard this most weeks.
Lovely 1st touch, good passer over 10/15 yards. A really tidy footballer.
Pete - that is my opinion on the bloke based on what I've seen.
I don't give a s**t who signed him, who didn't play him last year, about GP, about what others say about him - even if their dad was Bobby Moore, and if he cost 50p, I'd say the same.
I don't care if people who seem to rate him have played at a decent level.... so have John Barnes, Bryan Gunn and Roy Keane... great seasons they've had. Roy Keane splashed a million on Delaney! Truly great player, Roy Keane. Good judge?
So there you have it. You asked for opinions and reasons to back them up. You've got plenty now. You don't agree?.... FINE. You don't need to.
But please don't come out with all the same old horse s**t about "scapegoats" and "negative fans"... because I have NEVER ONCE booed a QPR player, or even critisized a player like "Bozza" before. Ever.
It's not your opinion of GB that I have a problem with... it's your refusal to accept others, and the constant questioning of peoples motives for having their opinion of a player that they see with their own eyes, pay good money to watch... and they just simply don't rate.
One final thing... I honestly believe that if Matt Connolly hadn't fallen ill when he did, Gary Borrowdale would have been benched weeks ago, and now we've signed Tommy Williams - this whole thread has been about QPR's future reserve left-back.
And in my OPINION, quite right too.
i don't know, everyone has been moaning all season (and most of lasts as well) that we haven't got cover for the LB position, now whoever decided that Tommy Williams would be a decent cover/replacement for GB then fair play to him.
Pete, you mention "scapegoats" and Mahon not being good enough last season, but all of a sudden he's the best thing since sliced bread, maybe that has something to do with the competition he is getting this season, he didn't have Buz, Rowley or Fraulin to compete with last year )well most of it) so this season because he has, he's upped his game, Ramage the same, no real competition until Legs played at right back & since then he's played a lot better, now I've only seen GB a handful of times & i can honestly say he is woeful in every department, but if the signing of TW gives the lad the competition to up his game then TW will be a terrific signing ( i actually think TW should go straight into the team) I've always said we need quality competition in all positions, maybe we are slowly getting towards that, a decent right back & a quality striker & we're there.
and about the striker position, maybe Jim John & GP don't think we need one as where would he fit in, that would mean dropping one of the midfielders & if that is the case who would that be, we need "balance" in the team which i think we have at the moment, i don't think a top notch striker will sign to be sat on the bench to be a "plan B player"

Good post Robbo, although overly critical on GB in my opinion.

Borrowdale benched?? Tut tut Robbo. You are exactly the kind of person with all due respect, that Pete is talking about. Just like Cait, you are easily influenced by others (thats not a really a criticism, as thousands are the same), instead of watching the football and making a rational comment.
