Say there is a 25% chance of him being worth over £1m in 3/4 years, throw in the costs of development, in real life business you would bite their hand off. Man City are making a speculative bet as they have the money to enable them to do it.

A few years back it would make sense to sell but now it don't, we have a good young player who looks like he will without doubt 100% make it, in fact he reads the game well and can run past players and score.
There is more chance of him making it than not, I wouldn't sell him and go all the away.
We have many players at QPR who need to be sold, get rid of them first we so badly need the money.

Did Balanta have the likes of these top teams offer him to go and watch them at the age of 14?
People were having a go at Gianni for letting one of our young talents go when we were in trouble and that money saved us for 5 minutes, we are no longer that team and do not have to do things like that.
We should be doing all we can to bring better and younger players up our ranks for our own team, not for another team.

Lets be real.
Selling the likes of a 14 year old boy, may or may not be a gamble.
End of the day, its up to his parents how they would like to further his career. It is great to have a kid who has such great talent associated with the club, but we are not talking about a 17 year old. He has so much to learn in life and football is just a part.
lets hope he makes it, but realistically if a premier club came in now and tried to buy him, then I wouldn't mind either way, based on the fact we don't know what he will be like in 3-4 years timeALL BEST BANTER AND ALL THE LATEST FROM QPR.

But he does have far more potential than your average young player, just from seeing him in that game u could tell his football brain was far more developed than anyone else on the pitch let alone his technical ability. Not saying he will definately make it but there is no benefit to selling a young talented player like that. I mean we can't turn down
a silly bid cos such is the nature of the business but 1m is IMO farrr from a silly bidLast edited by NW9_RANGER; 09-11-2009, 01:25 AM.

For a start this article is printed in the People so it is probably a load of old boll*cks!
With regards to the Raheem Sterling situation, unfortunately due to the way that schoolboy and youth contracts work if the player wants to go there is little we can do about it. That said I definitely don't think we should be actively looking to offload him.
Say this guy goes on to be the next Wayne Rooney, how silly would we look offloading him for a couple of million as a teenager? A similar thing happened with Jermain Defoe, came through the youth ranks at Charlton and was poached by West Ham before he was old enough to sign a professional contract, I think Charlton eventually got around 1 million through a tribunal.
I think what the club need to do is signal their intent to keep Raheem Sterling at the club, doing all they can to reassure the player, his family and his advisors that Loftus Road is the best place for him to continue his development. With any luck by the time he is 17 or 18 years old and part of the 1st team we will be an established Premiership side!

if someone offers us hard cash then we'll unfortunately have to take it
THIS
is the correct answer. :very_sad:

The boy is going NOWHERE. he'll be on the bench soon and he'll have a pro QPR contract. This aint like the Parret situation where we needed the cash..Amit will not let this kid go PLUS both he and his mum are more than happy with QPR.
Besides...we do have GP who could sell sand to an arab ;)

sadly
sadly its exactly the same as reo ferdinand,he was here as a 14 year old and someone got west ham involved
they went round and told reos family that he would be a multi millionaire if he joined west ham
and that really is the botton line
UNFORTUNEATELY WE HAVE NO CHANCE OF KEEPING , THIS KID HE WILL GO TO MAN UTD ALONG WITH ROUTLEDGE
OUR ONLY FUTURE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO APPOINT MEL JOHNSON TO RECRUIT FROM THE CONFERANCE PLAYERS LIKE LES FERDINAND AND
JERMAINE BECKFORD WATCHED STEVENAGE V CAMBRIDGE PLAY OFFS LAST SEASON BOTH SiDES HAD TALLENTED AFRO CARIBEAN STRIKERS VALUED AT 100 000 EACH WHO COULD DO THE BUISNESS BUT WE DONT HAVE A PERSON WITH THE CONFIDENCE TO BUY FROM THESE LOWER DIVISIONS
if you take a 23 year old from the conferance like martin rowlands from farnborogh they have a massive desire to play league football whilst this 14 year old will have his head turned when man utd come in with an amazing offer
ONE BIG MISTAKE WE MADE WAS NOT TO SELL KEVIN GALLEN FOR 5 MILLION TO MAN UTD
BUT OF COURSE WE NEVER KNEW HOW GOOD HE WAS TO TURN OUT TO BE
